Magnussen to replace Alonso during the test.

Poor Vandoorne "No mister Toro Rosso, I'm not going to race for you, I'm going to be a McLaren driver!".

I dunno how anyone could think Vandoorne would be the replacement for Alonso?

I dunno how anyone could think Alonso was electrocuted on Sunday?

that incident proved that replacing gravel traps is a negative thing. I hope they can see that astroturf is shit and do something

It's either Magnussen or Vandoorne?

But it was between Jenson and Kevin for the raceseat, so it makes perfect sense that he's the first stand-in in case anything happens.

I think Honda and McLaren are in big trouble with shitty equipment and created this as a diversion.

I was going to mention the same earlier today. The theory being that Alonso is fine (and has been all along) and has been intentional held in hospital by McLaren and Honda to create media hype so as to remove the focus away from the shitty car and engine development... and this which was posted very much under the radar this morning - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/117811

Obviously this is nothing more than a tinhat theory and not something I necessarily believe (because I'm joking).

Not really. If it was a gravel trap, there still would have been a border of nice, slippery grass before it.

Regarding the lack of visible destruction - don't the cars now have some hefty intrusion protection to protect the drivers' legs? If he hit the wall at 90°, it's quite possible that the suspension was lined up just right to pass all of the force directly into the car rather than break itself.

Stand-in for a few races maybe, but what if Alonso had a condition that forced him to retire? Maybe Mclaren saw Vandoorne as a better prospect on long term and would decide to place him in the car already.

Honda has to homologate their engine in two days, if I recall correctly. Does anyone know how their approach towards fixing the MGU-K system will be affected by this?

I mean, it will probably cost them tokens but how much for instance?

Who even needs a camera there? Those views look like shit. They carry a camera there all the time, and it's only ever used as a gadget-view during practice when nothing else is going on. When the director uses that angle mid-race during a battle, it makes me want to tear those off and shove them down his throat with a hammer.

Good call. It seems like he was unfortunate enough to hit at just the right speed and angle for that to happen.

So then... - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/117828

I'm a little unsure as to the intent of this article. The headline states Alonso may not be fit to race in Australia, whereas the content of the article which directly quotes Ron Dennis talks of Alonso's recuperation period following the accident and why he's not attending the final pre-season test.

All I can think of is that is intentional sensationalism because not much is going on at the test.

McLaren is done for today. Just seven laps for Jenson Button and McLaren before their day comes to an end. The engine needs to be replaced after a a hydraulic leak  :slaphead: Long season ahead for McLaren....

They will use up all of their engines in the first 8 races, so even if they improve their engine they will be hit with a shitload of penalties towards the end of the season.

This time in 2014 there were people making bold predictions about single digit finishers in Australia and many cars being outside 107%. Neither happened. McLaren and Honda are in trouble for sure, but given what happened last year there's no guarantee the issues will continue on into the season.

I await to be proved wrong come Australia.
