According to a recent Manor F1 Facebook post, they are gearing up for Melbourne and Will Stevens has been confirmed as their first driver.

Edit - it's on autosport.com now also

I think this is great news. Who could the second driver be? Current drivers from the Ferrari driver academy are; Raffaele Marciello; Lance Stroll; Antonio Fuoco; Guanyu Zhou. A driver from that program seems highly possible, but could an outside chance of a female driver be possible? The team needs sponsorship & some extra attention.... But provided they make it to the end of the 2015 season, they get a 10th place again.... congrats....

Holy shit I had a heart attack when I saw the headline in mainstream media, "Alonso still hospitalized" with the helicopter and sheets hiding the stretcher.

Turned out the story is... interesting rather than serious. I hope he recovers well though.

It's worrying that McLaren is withholding information. Obviously some of their main sponsors wouldn't take it kindly that the star driver has had any sort of medical issue before the season even started.

"Inevitably, some media reports have sought to exaggerate the severity of the incident", was what Boullier said.

Well, he's out:

And:

"Fernando Alonso has been released from hospital, but McLaren have confirmed he will sit out this week's final pre-season test at Barcelona."

"Kevin Magnussen, who drove for the team last season, will replace Alonso for the four-day test in Barcelona, which runs from February 26-March 1."

Quote:
Earlier this week McLaren published the results of its investigation into the crash, revealing Alonso's car was caught by a gust of wind in the fast right-hand Turn 3, causing him to run wide and lose control of the car. He then made heavy contact with the inside wall - believed to have registered at 30G - before making a further 15G impact with the wall before his car came to a halt ahead of Turn 4.

I hate to be flogging a dead horse here but its statements like this that just add fuel to the fire. So he is believed to have registered 45 g total impact, which would well, put it in the monumental category, and the only visible damage to the car was a missing front wing and slightly wonky rear wheel? Seems McLaren are building indestructible tanks or their g meters are way off.

That's not complaining. That's pointing out the obvious of the chinese whispers that the media started on Sunday.

When it comes to McLaren some people just need to drop the straws.

It's whatever you can call it, but it could have been avoided if they weren't so vague with their press releases.

But they weren't vague at the time when the media were speculating based on nothing. At that time, McLaren were saying nothing. Boullier wasn't complaining, he was saying the media exaggerated. Which is a norm for the media.

Well that's true. But unfortunately these wild theories continue to go on since McLaren just called it a 'normal testing incident' and now we have Alonso who won't be able to test this week. And I heard they send Vettel away when he wanted to give his story on the crash?

I'm not one of the wild theories but it doesn't add up.

Well with a concussion you generally stay out of the car for a week, which means Alonso has to sit out the test. Nothing untoward there.

I agree but with Vettel saying that Alonso drove around 150 kilometres per hour?

 that's still 90+mph, take your car out and drive it into a wall at that speed, let us know if you survive.

In an F1 car you should walk away unhurt, no matter what the angle of impact was.

Post subject:  Re: 2015 Random F1 Discussion Thread

maybe the "fall apart during a crash" feature failed or the speed was too low for parts to break off and absorb the impact and therefor Alonso took the full blow.

Would explain the relative minor damage to the car.

Yeaa and you can lose control on astro turf at that speed. Of course Vettel is just guessing but it was still fast enough. What people have to remember is that in an accident, your insides still try to carry on when everything else has stopped. There's no mystery to how Alonso ended up with a concussion, he was just unlucky to have suffered one.
