Was thinking, in the last quarter of the race, could anyone have done well by pitting for new tyres? Everyone was on very tired tyres by the end weren't they? Guess it'd be marginal due to the time needed for the pitlane, but new tyres were worth about 2s a lap, so if that pace could be maintained for 15 laps the time would have been made up.

The closeness of the field makes this a bit problematic as you are almost certain to lose positions during the stop. But if, let's say you are 2nd just behind 1st and have half a minute gap to 3rd it could work.

but in that case, by the time you have closed the gap you will have asked so much of your tires that you lose the advantage

Didn't Massa and Kubica have a fight like that in '08?

Except that they had half of that fight on the runoff areas. But yeah, it was still an awesome battle.

Geez people, I remember when everyone was going bonkers about a rash of penalties in 2008 and now when the stewards are holding back it's also a reason to bash about it. After Webber got away with his pinball move on Hamilton in Melbourne it makes sense that Hamilton got away with his weaving in Sepang. And yes, I think if the ex-drivers weren't in the judges panel, those decisions could have been different, but that's irrelevant now, isn't it :p

A good race overall, action down the field, some drama thanks to the mixed up grid, but still suffered from being hard to pass

Wasnt sure whether to give it a 6 or 7... went with 7, if the rest of the year races are up to todays standard, we will have a decent season, but I think this might end up being one of the better ones.

Vettel has escped penalty for passing Trulli under the yellow flags:

"Having received a report from the Race Director that Car 5 Sebastian Vettel overtook Car 18 Jarno Trulli whilst yellow flags were displayed at the approach to Turn 4, the Stewards, having viewed video and telemetry evidence and heard evidence from the Driver and Team Representative, find that the Driver did breach Article 2.4.5.1 b) of Appendix H of the International Sporting Code.

However, the Stewards, having noted that the Driver made a very large reduction in speed through the yellow flag area and that he understood that Car 18 was slowing with an obvious problem, DECIDE in accordance with Article 16.2 a) of the Formula One Sporting Regulations to impose no penalty."

I remember seeing that Trulli waved Vettel by, after he almost stopped on track, maybe that helped the stewards finding their decision

Trulli was slowing with a hydraulics problem and Lotus had told him to continue as it was their home race. He had been lapping around 2 minutes in the closing stages so obviously his car was ailing quite a bit

After watching the race like some three times yesterday, it's still hard to decide who was the name of this years Malaysian Grand Prix. I liked Petrov's performance, while on track he showed a solid driving, didn't have any fear about fighting for positions with Lewis Hamilton among other drivers. Alguersuari did a good job aswell...

But lacking a clear name, I mean, didn't see any driver who have done an extraordinary driving, I'll vote on Sebastian Vettel who led basically the entire race. I could vote on Alonso because he drove 80% of the race with damaged gearbox and still was able to fight for positions, but in the end of all he had a Ferrari in hands...it might not be the best car of the year, but still a Ferrari.
