they should raise into 4 and bring those ugly cars into the ugly Pergusa lake

Imola should only stay if they put the track back to pre-94 spec (with 2022 safety obv)

Otherwise, it's no real loss as a race track, nice history but dull racing.

If we're talking last minute replacements, Donington might like another go at that... :whistling:

Is safe enough to revert to the old Tamburello with a SAFER barrier isn't it?

I mean, in the old days if they'd had a gravel trap and an old fashioned tyre barrier, it would've probably not killed Senna

They said they could do nothing about safety because of the river there, but there was a tatty bit of tarmac in front of it (not high grade modern FIA tarmac either) and a brick wall.
There would've been enough room for gravel and tyres even back then

These days with a tech-pro barrier and the foam frontage they like to put in front of tyre barriers for some reason (one day all that foam will catch fire and cause a terrible incident, mark my words) it should be fine

Dreaming, I know, especially as the run to Tamberello is about 50mph higher these days with no final chicane, but still.

Though there is a chicane before the start/finish if they need it.

The chicanes are why I don't like running the track on iRacing.

Tamburello should be fine, but I'm not sure Villeneuve could be put back and made safe.

Not with the run off Tosa has. Especially if Tamburello goes back to being a single corner, it would be flat out from Rivazza.

It's opposite to my usual opinion but I don't think a flat out Tamburello is wise. The track isn't nearly wide enough for that sort of speed (Russel/Bottas showed the limits of 3 lanes in a twisty section at 350kph). Maybe if they add one lane in the run down to Villeneuve.

Tamburello worked for a while, but people (generally) didn't drive like twats in a close pack back then.

Apparently the parabolica will be renamed curva Alboreto.

While he deserves a corner named after him why pick one of the best known corners? People will keep using parabolica for decades.

In fairness, does the corner really have a name? IIRC the word just describes the nature of the corner. Maybe it's meaningless in Italian.

Damn that's one hell of a company car for Bottas. 2022 contract incoming...?

If Alpha are going to keep one of Kimi or Gia I would pick Gia. He has more upside. The only reason to keep Kimi is marketing. If they want a reference for next years car I still think Gia is a better option.

Having said that there are probably better options than Gia available who aren't in F1. And if Alpha want to develop someone then Nyck de Vries springs to mind, he deserves a shot. Possibly Oscar Piastri. Or this is just a stop gap for Mick Schumacher to join in 2023. Its probably just a stop gap for Mick so it doesn't matter.

Tbh, I think it’ll Callum Ilott in the Alfa, with Kimi retiring and Valtteri staying in Mercedes.

Agreed, I think renaming Roggia would have been better spot to rename.

Or maybe one of Di Lesmo corners since we have two with the same name.

Post subject:  Re: 2021 Formula One Random Discussion Thread

Lesmo 1 and 2 are too ingrained into people's minds. Curva del Serraglio would've been a better option to rename. No one even thinks of it as a corner anyway since it's flat out.

Looking back on the past few races, I believe that there is such a thing as "too much information".

The race director's radio with teams, and his answers, shall remain private. At least during the live broadcast. Only their final decisions shall be broadcasted to us, once they then become public information.

The drama could then be released at a later stage, in documentaries or official videos, once the dust has settled. I know we're in 2021, but not everything has to be immediate.

I think this would make for a more relaxed viewing experience, less thunderstroms on social media, and more importantly: limit public/media pressure from interfering with race decisons (yes, there used to be pressures before social media too, but never to this immediate effect as events unfold). As an employee I am not judged on how I answer a phone call illediately, but on how I do my research and my final actions, yet Masi (and drivers/team) are scrutinized based on their hot takes on live radio calls. It's madness and a standard that no human shall be held to.

I mean, bringing some peace and quiet back to the sport and refocusing on the racetrack surface. Spa 98 would've been an awful experience to watch if we were parasited by radio calls, race control, Jordan's team orders, etc...

I agree a lot with that, specially because teams and drivers use the public display of radio calls to whine and make something small bigger than it is
