It was You could have put Lewis, Nando or Vettel in the 2012 Mercedes and it would have only done a little better than it did.

Great lap by Nico but he's going backwards tomorrow. Alonso vs. Vettel for the win. Massa is the wildcard on his hards, problem is his racepace has been poor in all the races this year. See if it'll change tomorrow.

It started quick but performance dropped off over the season.

Utter nonsense. The WO3 ate it's tyres worse than a fat kid in a cake store and was incredibly poor compared to nearly all of it's rivals. When a compromise between downforce and speed was needed it was typically worse off than the Williams and Sauber as well. Consistently qualifying 6 tenths - 1 second off pole once they returned to Europe isn't remotely quick.

It didn't have enough downforce, wasn't quick enough bar Monaco once the European season began, and ate it's tyres worse than every other competitive car including the Toro Rosso, and were it not for Sauber repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot, and Maldonado pissing about 70+ points down the drain they shouldn't have even finished Top 5 in the Constructors.

Given how often Schumacher was outqualifying and outracing Nico, and his comparitive performance to Lewis so far. You can comfortably say the problem was the car. It wasn't quick enough.

From Belgium onwards there was only two races it was less than a second off the ultimate pace, and many instances they barely made Q3 or didn't at all. It started strong when no one understood the tyres and quickly got found out, coupled with bollocks development.

Mercedes was quick and looked decent at the very start of 2012. Then it went downhill. To suggest all the problems are fixed just because the team is quick in 2013 at the exact same places as 2012 is silly. I won't be judging Mercedes' season until the mid-point at the very earliest.
