Grosjean stuck his nose in as Button was taking the corner.

Grosjean was already alongside way before the corner.

Button is trying to overtake someone, backs out, goes to take the line but that's where Grosjean is already, hence the carnage ensues.

Hardly alongside. Button really had the corner, but he was concentrating on the McLaren.

The thing is, it's more difficult to make a slow driver fast than iron out mistakes. But when you get to this point and you have drivers such as Pastor and Romain continuing to make mistakes like this, then you have to raise questions as to their suitability in top teams.

Pastor has been making these sort of errors since 2004 and is seemingly unable to realise that the main point in the incidents is him.

The worst thing for Pastor and Romain is that their 2012 success to the justifies that there is nothing wrong with what they are doing.

---

Also, I didn't notice the ticker-tape on the podium today. They must have scrapped that.

Ok, found the article, turns out I was wrong and misread...

Quote:
Pastor Maldonado has confirmed that staying at Williams is his first choice for the 2013 Formula 1 season.

Despite his run of mishaps in recent races, Maldonado's stock is relatively high thanks to his accomplished victory in the Spanish Grand Prix, but he claims to have no plans to chase a drive with another team.

He is almost certain to be retained if Williams continues its relationship with Venezuelan petroleum giant PDVSA, which is understood to stipulate that the team must run a driver from the South American country even though it is not tied exclusively to Maldonado himself.

"From my point of view, yes, because I have confidence in the team," said Maldonado when asked by AUTOSPORT if remaining at Williams was his first choice for next year.

"This team has a big future, is improving all of the time and I would like to win the championship here before I leave."

Maldonado does not expect his future to be confirmed until the end of the season as Williams plans to wait until the current campaign is finished before firming up 2013 plans.

Williams did not announce that Maldonado would remain with the team after his 2011 rookie campaign until December 1 last year.

Despite his confidence, the 27-year-old Venezuelan insists that he is not making any assumptions about his Williams future even though he is satisfied with his performance.

"We've not had any talks," said Maldonado. "They [Williams] will wait for the end of the season.

"You never know in Formula 1, but I think I am doing quite well. I like the people and have a great relationship with them but we will see. Anything could happen.

"There are still nine races to go [this year] but I am looking forward to next year as well. The team is working hard on next year too, so we will see."

The issue for Williams will be how they get the money. If the deal is, as suspected, £29m per season, then they may look at the points lost from Pastor and think they would be better off cutting their ties. But if it increases season by season, it will be different.

Plus, points or not, Pastor is only in his second season and has the speed. They would be concerned about putting Bottas alongside Senna; I like Bruno but he does not have the raw speed of Pastor even if he can bring home points regularly. It's a really tough call, but given a choice of what would be best for the team, I'd choose Pastor.

Grosjean was still right there at the apex and Button came across on him. I think I said it at the time but drivers have to be more aware of everyone around them on lap 1. Don't assume that there isn't anyone in the space you want to be in. Romain made that assumption today and he has paid the penalty.

Grosjean's reaction.

Good to see a fairly mature response. Not taking the Pastor route.

Also, is Autosport trying to beat the record for most hyperlinks in one article?

Totally agree. Even if Pastor has lost them more than £29m this year with mistakes, there's no gurantee that next years car will be as fast, whilst that £29m is guranteed next year.

I don't think theres any Venezulan drivers faster than Pastor around. As you've said previously, you can hope that a fast driver will stop making mistakes, there's little hope of a slow driver getting faster.

Autosport has reported that D'Ambrosio is expected to take Grosjean's seat for the Italian GP but it must have been written by a temp or work experience person as they also said that also under consideration for the drive are free agents including Jaime Alguesuari, Rubens Barrichello and LOL, yes, Adrian Sutil

I'm guessing in about 0.1s time after the picture was taken, Pastor walloped Timo

I suppose they could get Johnny Cecotto Jr. or maybe even...Viso.

It is a South American, I'll find the article that confirms it.
