They only share the name. That's it.

I think the FIA also got it spot on with the DRS zones in this race.

It's not like it's a freaky occurence that came out of the blue. The risk is known and already identified properly, and today's crash (like the gazillions before it) doesn't bring any more data about this kind of accident.

Either this risk is deemed unacceptable (and mitigations measures are to be taken ASAP); or it is accepted (in which case, tough shit, even if one day it goes wrong). I just hope nobody goes emo and acts surprised the day someone gets hurt, I hate that kind of hypocrisy.

Are we SURE that race was at Abu Dhabi?

Weird to think this year the two races we expected to be the worst (Valencia and Abu ) are actually fighting for the race of the year accolade. God I love F12012.

Haven't read through the thread yet but no doubt some are decrying various performances as luck (Kimi and Vettel especially I imagine)
Vettel's race reminded me a bit of Monaco 2008, self inflicted mistakes but great performance afterwards to salvage it.

A mark of a true great is reacting to the hand you've given even if you had a part to play in dealing that hand to yourself.
Salvaging a bad job like Vettel did today is a mark of a true great.
Plus he also managed to pull off the overtake of the race on Jenson so there goes that whole "can't Pass" thing too.
Take out the first 15 laps or so and that was a perfect performance from him.

Driver of the race still Kimi though. Great to see another name on the 2012 win roster and reacted well to the late race pressure. Also great to hear some swearing. Think he's playing up to the "don't give a shit" image now but I'm glad he is as it makes him all that more an enjoyable personality and seemingly a better driver for it too.

Shame for Lewis, that race was his, but how many times have we said that this year, the race looks like it is being controlled by one driver then BAM, 180 degree change. Valencia all over again really....

Oh races like these....THAT's why I'm a fan. :)

Good post, codename, I can't do nothing but agree. This is a race that rank as high as Spa 2000, Suzuka 2005, Montreal 2011, Spa 2008, Spa 2009 (it just keeps repeating, does it?) and Valencia 2012.

Abu Dhabi really was an awesome modern era F1 race that had so much going on that it's worth of second and third re-runs to watch.

Was there even a dull part that's oh so common? I can't say that there was a boring part in this race. Every lap was keeping me on the edge of my sofa. And just one week ago I was nearly falling in to a sleep during the race.

It's mentioned: It's only the name.
Better: First win since 2008 Japan.

First WRC driver to win in F1? :?

I'm sure Jim Clark's name is about to come up but dunno if it was the WRC then....

The first Finn to win since 2009 August.

The first snowmobile race winner since Gilles Villeneuve to win in F1.

Well, being a WRC driver and win a F1 race is not really impressive. It is not like he won events in WRC or ever went close to a podium finish. If you have the money you can drive whatever you want, but there is nothing impressive about it. With that said, its good for him that he gets a win, should keep him motivated hopefully ! :)

So what you're saying is any F1 win isn't impressive if you can't win in WRC?

And that if you have money you can drive in any team and therefore probably win a race?

For the love of God, forget the italian media crap from 2008-2009 about Kimi's motivation! He's a hardcore racer who wants nothing else but the victory. His currently 3rd in the championship and he's the only driver in the grid who has completed every lap of thi season so far. He's doing the best he can with the car that he has, every-god-damn-time.

After Korea and India I'm seriously not able to do this. Perhaps this would be different if it was a different track, like Brazil.

Now I'm just thinking that Red Bull is dominant and there can't be any big changes in one week, so this will suck.

Sorry for the negative thoughts. ;)
