Copied from Atlas, I wouldn't give this much credit...

Quote:
In Monza it was reported that HRT Hispania could soon reach agreement with Renault for the supply of engines and the use of the rear of the R31, Petrov and Senna's car. This was revealed by Autosprint. In addition, HRT should move to Valencia. Recall that a Spanish financial group took over the team that belonged to Jose Maria Carabante. At the head of the new entrepreneurs is Alejandro Agag, former owner of the team in GP2 and GP3 Addax and very close to Flavio Briatore.

Well, I can still see (engine manufacter) Renault drop (racing team) Renault.
I don't really see why they should opt for HRT instead of Renault however.

Renault want to downgrade to just an engine supplier. That has been known for a long time. But they are tied into the Enstone operation by the current Concorde agreement. It's not a case of Renault adopting HRT instead of Genii, more a case of extending their current reach within F1 teams. If Renault have additional demand that they have resources available for then why not supply their product and resources to a further team?

The only tie to the Renault F1 team is the name and supplying engines. If they want they can drop the engine deal but that would look silly. Lotus Renault Cosworth ??

As soon as Genii can change the name, Renault will drop them like it's hot.

Yeah and it's very doubtfull that BMW would be cheering the team was named that. If it was possible they'd dropped the BMW part last year already.

Its a shame to see whats happened to Renault. The team of Symonds, Flav, Alonso and the blue/yellow cars was brilliant.

Well it all started to unravel for them towards the end of 2005.

Even so, the R26 was a fantastic car for the opening half of the season

I was referring to the team rather than the car specifically.

Towards the end of 2005 Alonso started getting paranoid about the support he was getting from within his team. That lead to Alonso signing for McLaren ready for 2007, before the start of the 2006 season and without Briatore's knowledge. Alonso then left, there was no good driver leadership and the team started to do poorly. The rest is history.

Exactly. Alonso's return at the end of 2007 simply masked the problems for a year or two

More difficult to believe news from Atlas:
"HRT are believed to have been seen with Renault Engine team staff at Monza.
Barwa Addax will purchase the team from Thesan Capital, thus renaming the team and moving to Valencia.
Charles Pic, Romain Grosjean and Giedo Van Der Garde in line to drive in 2012."

I thought it was primarily due to the rumours floating around at the end of 05 that having won the title that Renault would pull out of the sport after 2006? So that and a lucrative Mclaren offer pretty much saw him on his way. I remember they had a change of leadership [can't remember his name] who "hates" motorsport or the expense of Formula One. Is he still in charge?
