That is the key quote. Tony may have had the right to use Team Lotus in F1, but he couldn't use it in conjunction with anything else, which means that its value is limited.

So it's better for him to sell the name (probably for far more than he bought it for from David Hunt), and to use one of his other brands, for now.

Group Lotus cannot rename Renault to Lotus until the end of 2012, otherwise they'll lose TV money. So there will be no Lotus on the grid next year.

I still believe this is going to play out like the end of the film Dodgeball.

To be honest, any team claiming to be Lotus is just making a mockery. Far better for Fernandes to have 'Caterham F1' or something so that a new manufacturer gets records etc

In other news, rumours are circulating that Sam Michaels is cropping up at McLaren tomorrow
