It's also funny that in the Lap of the gods video from the late 80's, Murray Walker says that Suzuka "may not be a great circuit". I find that amusing now that everyone thinks it's one of the best tracks in the world.

Well, it's all relative, isn't it? Mini Nurburgring was despised at first, because of what it was being compared to, and now it's seen as one of the better tracks.

But still, the same tracks that it was compared to back then still exists today. Not in F1 perhaps, but they are still around hosting races.

When Suzuka made its Grand Prix debut the calendar was:

Jacarepaqua - not a bad track but not among the greatest either
Imola - old version with Tamburello and Villeneuve was good
Spa - shortened already but still great track
Monaco - challenging street track.
Detroit - another street track but not that popular
Paul Ricard - shortened so had lost some of its greatness
Silverstone - Before major modifications. OK, Woodcote had chicane but otherwise only fast corners
Hockenheim - fast power track and few chicanes
Hungaroring - even slower than what it is today
Österreichring - great track
Monza - fastest track on the calendar
Estoril - Three successive fast corners (last and first two). Not bad
Jerez - quite slow, not among the best
Mexico City - quite fast, bumpy and altitude giving also some problems
Suzuka
Adelaide - probably one of the best street tracks

I thought it was better than Singapore, so 4/10.

damn, amazing calendar... and quite a few more 'full throttle engine blowing' tracks... Hockenheim, Zeltweg, Silverstone and Mexico with it's very long straight and succession of nice corners!

those were good times simply because of cars that were less dependant of aerodynamics and more of a good turbocharged engine, fueled until the finish and drivers that needed to overtake to win races since that mattered to win the championship

Fuji TV weren't bad, but that's because FOM hasn't been that good this year probably. Only the directing of FOM i slightly better, but camera placement and other stuff you don't notice the difference between Fuji and FOM (only slightly fuzzy picture)

In qualy they caught most of the crashes live, in the race there was not much to miss for the director so I give it a 7

I agree with you on that. One more thing I want to add is what FujiTV did after the winner crossed the line----they switch to the battle between Jenson and the BMW, although the 2 drivers were already out of the chicane turn meaning there's not likely a position change after all, but I'm afraid if that were FOM, we won't even see that, we might be left with a camera fixed on the front straight waiting for all the cars coming across the line.

I thought FUjiTV did an awsome job, they caught all the action. Never thought this was possible with FujiTV.

9 from me

This coverage was definitely better than Singapore done by FOM. Which was a big suprise. I give it 8.

I thought it was quite good, especially compaird to the last few races. 7

I for one did expect more crashes after qualifying yesterday, but there was only 1 late in the race, which was a biggy. Great to be at suzuka again.

Vettel, although Trulli deserves a special mention
