That crap still makes me cringe. But the "Thank you Bernie" signs were even worse.

Did you all read Brundle different than I do? Alonso shouldn't be sitting there on a chair, he should be standing on the podium because he is better than the three guys that were up there. And it is a waste that no big team wants him.

And somewhere Button and some of you read into this that Brundle is a sad old man who can't appreciate fun.

Or did I misunderstand everything?

You missed the part where Brundle says sitting in the chair reminds the other bosses why they don't want him.

Brundle does have a point - Alonso has hardly been keeping his thoughts about the Honda to himself and you could argue that it compounds the reputational damage that Honda are suffering. Would other teams want a driver that is so vocal when it comes to mechanical failures? Obviously, Honda have been appalling since they re-entered and Alonso's patience has been seriously tested, but other teams would (probably quite rightly) worried about potential negative PR from Alonso if they were to go through a rough patch.

That said, it's great publicity for F1 and really does show how Liberty are shaking things up from a social engagement perspective.

The prospect of negative PR would easily be solved in the contract. Foul mouth the team in such a way that it puts the team or its associates in a bad light = goodbye. Harsh and probably unfair, but effective.
The problem for Alonso is that there's no openings. And his huge salary demands.

Bad publicity can be turned into something good. Honda are now being laughed at with memes and because Alonso is so honest about the problems, at least they get publicity. Bad publicity is better than none at all. Now if Honda would just solve the problems and give Alonso a winning car he would praise them, that would be a good story of redemption. But Honda are just incompetent and can't build a decent engine. They have no one but themselves to blame.

He should just go to WEC and do the odd IndyCar race.

Get a seat in that Toyota and you'll be a LeMans 24 winner in 2018. Now with Porsche gone too, they can run the 24 at half-arsed pace and still win it.

I guess Toyota will also pull the plug on WEC because they want competition

so maybe he could fetch a seat in LMP2
