I’ve been researching this a bit over the last few days and this kind of arrangement is quite common within teams.

I'd like to know what teams. We've seen McLaren and RBR let the drivers race.

the message 'fuel is critical' is in the same category.
Giving Webber's wing to Vettel was also a clear sign of giving advantage to a certain driver.

I'm sure if Massa would have been in a position to fight for the championship, i.e. only a few points seperated from Alonso Ferrari would have let them race too.

I voted a 3 in the end.

I think the Nurburgring is a better venue to hold the German Grand Prix.

Which isn't team orders. What are teams supposed to be banned from moving parts between cars now?

Well if you think team orders should be banned, surely not wanting any other decisions to give an "unfair" advantage to one driver in the team over another to be banned as well is hypocritical, because it's the same principle

How is taking someone's wing the same as making them get out of the way? It's not the same as team orders!

Because both are giving one driver in the team an advantage. It's the same principle

You might argue that the driver who gets the better part(s) won't necessarily make use of that advantage, but there's no guarantee the driver that benefits from a shuffle will too

The main gripe of those that are against team orders is that one driver in the team gets preferential treatment and the upper hand in the team, and thus it's not a fair fight. It's also not a fair fight when a new part gets taken off the "lesser" driver's car and put on the "lead" driver's car

The truth is F1 never has been a fair fight so they should all be legal

Team orders or changing pieces from a car to another, i put everything in the same basket. It's lousy and completely defeat the purpose of the sport spirit. It shouldn't be legal at all, in fact, it shouldn't even be existing if people acting thisway would understand what sport actually is.

for once, I have to agree with you. The "principle" is the key point here.

Anyway, drivers that are favoured in a team have merits to have that status, they gained the team's confidence more than the other driver. Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton simply have better status as drivers and therefore their respective teams tends to favour them, regardless if this is fair or not.

If Massa don't want to be "second driver" again in some point next year, then he must, at least, equal Alonso in pace both race and qualifying. That's exactly why I'm hating the treatment Webber have been receiving, especially by people as Helmut Markko, because his driving this year should have gave him more respect within the team.
