The Winton based teams will certainly have something to say about that. FPR will be looking for a return to form after an extremely poor start to the season. HRT and GRM are fighting for the position of top Holden team and after a 4th and 6th placing in Race 4, Holdsworth and Caruso will be looking for a strong performance at the track that GRM has achieved its best results at. This weekend for the first time an option tyre will be in use for the V8 Supercars. At some time over the two races the softer compound tyre will need to be used. The tyres will be marked with a yellow wall. To give the teams some practice on the tyres, there will be a special pink walled tyre for Friday practice which will be the only set of softer compound tyres that the teams get for practice this year. Qualifying stays the same this weekend except that the session can overrun up to 15 minutes as opposed to the 5 minutes allowed at Hamilton, hence if a lengthy red flag occurs there is a greater chance of the session being resumed. Endurance drivers are allowed to compete in Practice A this weekend to give them some valued track time. Greg Ritter (GRM), Nathan Pretty (JDR), David Wall (WSR), Dean Canto (FPR), Luke Youlden (FPR), Steve Owen (HRT/WAL), Craig Baird (HRT), Shane Price (WAL), Andrew Jones (BOC), Adam Macrow (BRI) are some of the drivers contesting the session. sports.yahoo.com.au wrote: Under-fire V8 Supercar rookie Tim Slade will keep his job but lose all mod cons in his car for this weekend's championship round at Winton Raceway. Slade has had a disastrous start to his first year in V8 Supercars - crashing his Supercheap Auto Holden in all four championship races this year. But despite speculation he would be axed from his team, owner Paul Morris has spared Slade - instead promising a back-to-basics approach for the young driver at Winton. The 23-year-old will lose his race engineer, computer screens and control of all apparatus apart from that used to directly drive the car to help build his confidence. And Morris, a combative former driver who retired at the end of last season, will take personal charge of Slade during each race. "We're going back to basics with Tim - it's just me and him this weekend. No engineers, no gizmos and no computer screens with squiggly lines," Morris said. "Having engineers and data helps a lot, but there's no point if there's a Commodore hanging out of the fence. "With all the pressure of stepping up he's over-analysing everything and making mistakes." Slade said he was happy to have Morris in his corner - the pair working one-on-one at their Gold Coast base since he crashed out of the last round in New Zealand. Morris said he hoped Slade, who is stepping up from an impressive 2008 season in the second-tier Fujitsu series, would relish having less pressure on him. "No one's interested in hard luck stories so we have to make sure he doesn't have any more," Morris said. "I've got complete faith in Tim. He's a more than capable driver. "He's shown he's fast. He's 100 per cent fully committed to his career and I wouldn't have signed him if we didn't believe he could do the job." Ford's Jamie Whincup goes into this weekend's round at the northeast Victorian track in a commanding position after dominating the first two rounds. Practice starts on Friday, with races on Saturday and Sunday. Very interesting, but I'd be worried about having Paul Morris in your ears all weekend. |

Yep, Car #222 with Wilson Security sponsorship. I think an ex-Britek barge. May have an FPR engine in it if Ten-Tenths to be believed. Tander's ride is currently a one-off but is looking for sponsorship to do more rounds before the enduros. |

Still no second entry from Race Image But looking forward to watching the action on TV. Hopefully not a Whincup walk away again. |

Johnson said that line once, on Racecam there in 1990, on a day when he was far from competitive....yet that line has been repeated to death No one seems to mention the glowing praise he had for the circuit on Racecam during the 1986 ATCC event there, when he was having a fair better run.... |

I enjoyed the race even though I agree the action was spiced up artifically by the soft tyres. Did get a bit annoyed with Skaife thinking that GT could do no wrong, yeah sure he was a bit unlucky but thats racing and he did contribute to a couple of his incidents. The other thing that got me, is that coulthard deserved his penalty on Tander yet no one blinked an eye lid a lap or 2 before that when Caruso pushed passed Coulthard (when Caruso got his bonnet all bent up)... one assumes is was because the push wasn't big enough to cause a spin. There were a couple of other similar incidents though part of me thinks it was ok because we do want to see some action. |

Rofl at Marshall with a new lap record. Sprint tyre really spices things up, love it and it gives the opportunity for smart strategies to really pay off in a big way. |
