Provisional entry list for 24H Dubai. Picture-based with provisional driver lineups.

Race will be broadcast on RLM :)

Isn't that missing a lot of entries? Pole sitting isn't even on it.

I completely forgot about the target laptimes in this series. Already taken the interest away for me. HORRIBLE system.

I thought that was scrapped in the pro category? Well, that the pro-cat was created specifically for that

They were just talking about target laptimes and jokers whilst talking about the leaders. If it's scrapped then maybe I misunderstood what they were meaning. They have just said the AM drivers are already breaking the target times though.

Afaik the pro category has no target time anymore and teams had to decide if they wanted to run in pro or in am. Pro cars have added weight and higher height, but can go as fast as they want.
AM cars can break the 2.05 rule ten times, then have to come in for a DT

Complete confusion under this Code 60. Some cars are traveling far too slow.

So yeah, I've been sick today and trying to follow this, new to it though so it's confusing me a bit...

What's the deal with the target laptimes? Is it a time they're not allowed to go FASTER than (not, as I assumed at first, like 107% in F1 and a minimum laptime...)

What's the logic behind that one? Doesn't that make this race just like a parade?
"Yeah, lets get some of the most powerful and exotic cars in the world and make sure they're only ran at around 80% of the speed they can do?"

Also: Code 60: Mandatory Yellow or something different? :?

Of course shouldn't moan about motorsport in January but those rules combined with the historically dodgy TV coverage ( I think you'll have more luck capturing an incident at the Dakar though....) means this is a frustrating watch..

Anyway it's back live as I type, lets see how if its any better...

*Edit* Daman says 14 hours of Darkness in this race? Fucks sake, invest in some more floodlights then Arabs, you blatently have the monies!

Target lap times are for amateur only. Pros can do whatever they want.

Code 60 is a safety car without the safety car. Everybody slows to 60km/h. It stops the field bunching up and costing the leaders time they worked for.

NO. NO NO NO NO. Flood lights are to endurance racing like tarmac run off is to F1. What's the point in a 24 hour race where you don't need headlights? This track is properly dark, like endurance races should be!

Thanks for the explanations Ellis.

I agree too about night racing it doesn't make for GREAT tv watching headlights circle.

Though tbh what this race has in its favour is its cameramen aren't French so we're seeing more of night racing than just shots from the pitlane. Dubai 1 Le Mans 0 :p

Felt like a radio broadcast from the 1960s with the commentators gradually working out a big incident has happened by the cars trailing into pit lane with damage....

And it looks like a huge crash that took place right on the start finish straight....if they can't capture incidents there, they're not going to capture anything... :p

Now two more cars seem to have conked out.
