Great racing right now in Gt World, despite 14 cars on the grid.

Not completely in line of this topic, but there's a full (I think) livestream of the Zolder Super Prix this weekend. Supercar Challenge, some Clio's, some prototypes etc.

To quote myself, there's been a fairly massive accident for Cor Euser this afternoon (the legendary Dutchman with his equally legendary Marcos LM600). Most likely lost his brakes, while leading the race, entering the 90° right hander towards the end of the track. Suffered bruised 12th & 13th vertebrae

Ah really sad for Euser, hope he recovers well. And let's hope we see the Marcos back too...

Is that the LM600 or the weaker version?

Well, the news is out:

Quote:
In view of the worsening economic climate, which has hit not only the grids of the FIA GT Championships but of many other series in the context of an overcrowded sportscar scene, Stephane Ratel, founder and CEO of SRO Motorsports Group, informed the GT Commission, sitting in Paris on July 17th, that SRO did not intend to continue as promoter of the FIA GT1 World Championship and the FIA GT3 European Championship in 2013.

The Commission, while noting SRO’s reasons for this, underlined their support for promoter and teams to bring the 2012 season to a successful finish, in recognition of the investment made by the teams competing this year. A revised calendar for the second half of the season will be issued later this week.

Although this marks the end of SRO’s support to the GT1 World Championship, Ratel has been clear that he hopes that this will not mean the end of a long and fruitful collaboration with the FIA, with various possibilities being studied at the current time.

In the shorter term, SRO Motorsports Group will hold its traditional annual press conference during the company’s flagship event, the Total 24 Hours of Spa. This event, planned for Friday July 27th at 13:00, will see some exciting announcements concerning the new structure of SRO’s GT and F3 series, as well as the provisional 2013 calendars.

This gives them a huge and easy opportunity to fix the GT regs finally. Make GT2/GTE into GT1 derestrict a bit. Make GT3 as GT2, derestrict appropriately. Then we can go back to 2 GT classes in ACO competition and have the card easily completing in FIA GT too. Like it fecking should be.

I suppose it's not that bad in terms of drivers when you have 5-8 drivers per car. From a car perspective, it's not that horrendous either. Take Le Mans, for example. The amount of cars finishing has increased in the past 20 years. Traditionally, about 10-20 cars would finish. Now, it's more like 30 cars, but Le Mans would be more professional then this race, which could be a problem. The big problem, though, is spectators. I'm not sure what the public would think about this race.

And, it's nothing compared to the Nurburgring 96 Hours that was done back in the early 70's.

They do seem pretty serious about it, though. And it may not be as ridiculous as it seems, but I think I will wait a while before I take this very seriously.

Only issue I can think of is that most GT's require an engine revision every 30-ish hours. Especially GT3's would suffer from that, considering they even struggle to complete 24 hours.

Yeah, the cars are built to the current races we have - not extreme stuff like this. It'd be like asking F1 cars to do a 10 hour race. They wouldn't last.

Cool idea, if a tad insane. But you need a bigger track than that for a lot of cars.

This is great. I already planned to visit this for at least sunday. Now I think I'll have to go every day, lol.

On the other hand, this means they will run the chicane for the whole meeting. meh :(

That only talks about 'linking' the two series and allowing teams to do both, but: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/101532

His proposal for world titles to be awarded on the basis of the two series will go to the FIA World Council at the end of October.

'Two' being Blancpain and this "new" Sprint Series. lolwut?

Enge suspended for 18 months for failing a drug test (deja vu). He claims the illegal substance was for his cardiovascular problems.
