Yeah, definitely feels like it happened ages ago and sometimes it feels just surreal, like it never happened. It truly was a horrible day in everyway.

I hope that means that Lotus is still seriously involved with the series. It wouldn't hurt to have three manufacturers instead of two. Although, two is twice as many that we've got for the last five years or so.

Since this is the IndyCar discussion, I thought it'd be appropriate to say that Jim Rathmann, winner of the 1960 Indianapolis 500 has died.

Brian Barnhart removed from Race Control! :flag:
Quote:
Barnhart will be offered to stay on the payroll as president of operations but will no longer have anything to do with the officiating or managing of IZOD IndyCar Series races.
In addition to removing Barnhart as chief steward and director of racing, Bernard is also replacing Terry Angstadt with Mark Koretzky, who served as director of business development for IndyCar in 2011.

I was JUST about to post this. I hope we can get someone competent in race control now.

Also, the 2012 cars were testing at Fontana with some new aero bits.

Some technical photos and analysis of the new car problems here. Seems the weight bias is 41/59 when it was designed to be 45/55.

Its funny how different the cars look in pictures compared to in person.

I saw the 2012 cars up close when they were on display at the Indy500, and came away VERY impressed with how they looked, but that doesn't translate as well to the pics.

Either way we'll get used to them, the current F1 cars being a good example.

The mothballed 3.5-liter atmospheric Honda V8s offered instant torque, acceleration, and forced its users to be mindful of aggressive throttle inputs. So far in testing, the 2.2-liter turbos (Honda uses a single Borg Warner turbo while Chevrolet and Lotus use twin BW units) have been incredibly responsive, with drivers applauding the lack of turbo lag, but the small-displacement engines, compared to their predecessor, offer minimal amounts of initial torque.

Simply put, stomping on the throttle in slow corners, at present, is met with nice and tidy acceleration. The “be afraid…be very afraid of touching the throttle” sideways moments drivers and fans were hoping for is nowhere to be found.
