I don't watch a lot of Indycar, but what the fuck was that?
Might as well start throwing out penalties for not letting the entire field by. Hell, why not just make passing illegal?

Awesome thread title.

I'm hoping that Despain's inbox was flooded for WindTunnel tonight.

Also, new facebook group asking for Barnhart to be fired: http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gi ... 5850019169

Funny how Bernard was just talking about how they need a credible series and how much Duno hurts that, then Barnhart goes and makes a completely moronic decision like this. I'm thinking he's the one who needs to told to go away.

After seeing what happened, my only reaction is:

Holy fucking shit. That was the worst call in the history of the IRL. Ever.

Whoa, that call was total BS.

But I do see where Barnhart is coming from... Helio CLEARLY blocked the inside lane by hugging it. Then he swung out 15-20 ft to get the proper line into the corner (after Power ducked to the outside to pass). I *think* Barnhart's stance is that you can't have it both ways - either block and hug that inferior line all the way through the corner or don't block and take your normal line... Helio tried to have his cake and eat it too.

Still, a bad call.

I listened to the race on XM radio and the announcers were adamant it was'nt blocking and found it funny when Dixon and Dario were asked about it they both said it was about time they started enforcing blocking penalties.

So, Barnhart, what the fuck are they supposed to do towards the end of the race? Pull over?

Well I can sorta see how that could be considered a block, but to me a block is chopping across the track and forcing the car behind to avoid you, not simply taking a defensive line through a passing zone.

My feeling exactly, but nevertheless, it's a ridiculous decision stemming from a ridiculous rule.

The whole "blocking rule" in Indycars is plain laughable to the extreme. How is a race driver supposed to protect his position if he can't be even allowed to make a single defensive move? Makes absolutely no sense. A race driver can't be a sitting duck, if he has the capability to defend his position, then he must be allowed to be given that chance.

F1 at least has it all figured out with the "one move rule", which is spank right on the money regarding fair racing, you move once, you're defending, you move twice/weave, you're blocking. Can't see how hard that is to apply it here in Indycars.

Bad luck for Helio, never seen him so angry before, but unfortunately rules are rules
