2010 IZOD IndyCar Series - Round 3
Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, Barber Motorsports Park, AL USA
Countdown to the race start: You need JavaScript to be activated to be able to use the timer function
After starting the season with the IndyCars on the streets, we now move to the Barber road course for round 3. Having not raced here before, it is unknown whether IndyCar can maintain its current form and produce another spectacular event. Having had pre-season testing at the venue, along with a few drivers saying overtaking might be difficult here, we are going into unknown territory. Hopefully it will be a good one!!
Official Lap Record: 1:20.613 (Max Papis, 2004, Ganassi Racing, Daytona Prototype) Unofficial Testing Record: 1:09.456 (Will Power, 2009, Team Penske, IndyCar)

If you have been absent during the off-season discussions and want a quick update to all the changes and additions for this coming season, click on the spoiler tab below: [spoiler]Series off-season changes:
The IZOD brand becomes the IndyCar Series' new major sponsor for 2010.
Late in 2009 Tony George left his role the leader of the IndyCar Series. He has since been replaced by Randy Bernard, whose vitae includes being head of the Professional Bull Riders. Bernard is now in full charge of both IndyCar and Indy Lights Series (as of 1st March 2010).
The push-to-pass ability (aka Honda Overtake Assist) has been increased in horsepower to double what drivers had in 2009.
The 4-position fuel mixture switch has been removed so cars will only be able to run on "full rich" or "yellow" fuel settings.
All cars will have a reverse gear at all street and road circuits in 2010.
Team & driver changes:
2009 Champions Chip Ganassi Racing, Panther Racing and A.J.Foyt Enterprises all enter 2010 with an unchanged line-up.
Penske racing is fielding three cars full-time in 2010, with the new addition of Will Power driving the #12 Verizon Wireless car. For the first time in many years, Penske will be fielding a new livery due to the drop of tobacco sponsorship.
Andretti Green Racing Changes Name into Andretti Autosport due to Andretti's business partners' decision to split from racing. The team will continue to field 3 cars full-time in 2010. The only change to the team is the loss of Hideki Mutoh being replaced by Ryan Hunter-Reay under IZOD sponsorship for selected races in 2010.
Dreyer and Reinbold Racing will run two cars full-time in 2010 with British duo Justin Wilson and Mike Conway. Wilson takes the Z-Line Designs sponsorship along with him from Dale Coyne. Ana Beatriz may well get a few drives in a third car in selected races in 2010.
de Ferran Motorsports has merged with Luczo Dragon Racing for 2010, and plans to continue fielding one car for Raphael Matos full-time. Davey Hamilton will field a second car in a few races in 2010, including taking part in the Texas race, the scene of his devastating accident.
KV Racing Technology has expanded operations in 2010 and is running a suprising three car line-up, with the drivers of Takuma Sato, EJ Viso and Mario Moraes driving the #5, #8 and #32 respectively. James Rossiter and Paul Tracy are expected to field a fourth car in selected races.
HVM has partnered with former Atlantics team Stargate Worlds (US Racetronics), and will run Swiss girl Simona de Silvestro in the #78 entry full-time this season. She has shown promise last year in the Atlantics series, and finished pre-season Barber testing ahead of Danica Patrick. The team has also announced the possibility of expanding operations with a more experienced team-mate in future races.
Dale Coyne racing has also expanded operations two cars in 2010, and will the #19 Boy Scouts of America car (driver for full-season unconfirmed), and Milka Duno will run the #18 CITGO entry in full-time effort; her first full-time drive in IndyCar.
Conquest Racing will return to the IndyCar Series full-time this year after completing a deal with Indy Lights driver Mario Romancini.
New entry FAZZT Race Team will compete in the IndyCar Series full-time for 2010 with driver (and co-owner) Alex Tagliani, after the purchase of Roth Racing assets.
Vision Racing co-owner Tony George has suspended racing operations due to an apparent lack of sponsorship.

"I think there's an underlying problem that's been built into my setup, because I was going in my own direction setup-wise. We've proven it wasn't really working for long runs, and so we're about to make a fairly significant change that takes us back toward the setup we had in 2006, my rookie year, when we were pretty strong and brings us more into line with what my teammates are doing."
"If we get all of that right – and Andretti Autosport is definitely capable of that – I don't see why we can't win at Barber. I'm serious."
Marco expressing Andretti Autosport is making it's way back to the front, and believes he can win at Barber.

Never seen any racing here before but the layout looks quite fun. I'd guess maybe a half chance to overtake at turns 1, 5, 8 and 12. Or will rain play a part again and give us another exciting race?

Entry list is up; theres 25 cars entered rather than the 24 I provisionally listed. Seems that Hunter-Reay is racing here also; didn't realise this was one of his races this year. Is this unexpected or did I just miss that?
And the Indy Lights entry list is a little different to expected; with Jan Haylen and Team E not participating, but with the additions of one car each from PBIR, Walker and Alliance Motorsports.
We knew Summerton's race deal with Walker racing was one race only, but it appears Walker is back with, yes, Dan Clarke!!

IndyCar OnDemand has put up an onboard lap from Scott Dixon during pre-season testing around the circuit; put it in the first post. Looks good, though it remains to be seen how easy it is to overtake. As for the weather, it looks likely to be dry (from a quick google).

If the rFactor/iRacing track is anything to go by I'd be suprised to see overtaking in 12 but heck who knows.

Yeah, having watched the video there only really looks like 1 passing place. But there are some tough corners so we could see some mistakes under pressure. I'm looking forward to it anyway
