If all rumours get confirmed, that would make for an interesting season, Vergne, Calado, Nasr and Smith are all promising rookies. Van Der Zande is well known to be a very strong driver and an extra season of experience would do good to him, but not driving for Carlin is always a big handicap here.

Van Der Zande needs to get out of F3. Hes had like 4 seasons in it. He needs to go to GP2 or F2. He was testing at Portimao yesterday in F2 so i guess he is going there.

I totally agree. He competed in the German F3 ('06), in the F3ES ('07/'08) and in BF3+F3ES this year. Makes four years of F3 racing which is quite much. So don't think that he'
ll stay there. He just has to get out of F3.

Will see what Jean-Eric Vergne will be able to do in BF3 :)

Hopefully this year will be more exciting as last year ... I didn't see at the races but Daniel Ricciardo was in another level IMO.

I was wondering about the calender and found this on Wikipedia (I know, not always reliable...)

The 2009 season had 7 UK dates, the new calendar doesn't look anymore British to me. :p Good news on the Thruxton date. :thumbsup:

Well, Bucharest and Hockenheim are (hopefully) gone, so it is a more British-centric calendar.

It probably would've been 8 British events had Mr. Gillett and his associates not interfered, but 87.5% of the calendar so far is still good.

3 Races per weekend, wonder where they got that idea from? :p

Hopefully it'll still be on TV with the Channel 4/Motors TV deal.
I don't see much changing there, no-one is going to wander in and broadcast them live anyway...

The grid will be established by the finishing order of race one, with the best-placed cars in reverse order. The race one winner will perform a podium draw to determine where on the grid he will start - anywhere between sixth and 10th.

Each meeting will conclude with a 40-minute feature race designed to "place the emphasis on driver stamina, racecraft, and mechanical reliability", according to a statement from the organisers. The grid for this race will be set by competitors' fastest times in qualifying.

Points for races one and three will be awarded according to the previous structure: 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 to the top 10 in the International and National classes, with an additional point for the fastest race lap in each class.

Points for the reversed grid sprint race will be awarded on a reduced scale: 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 to the top 10 in the International and National classes, but there will be an additional two points for the fastest race lap in each class.

Lets try and simplify the article posted.

Race 1 - 30 mins - starting order decided by driver's second fastest time in the single qualifying session
Race 2 - 20 mins - the top 6 to 10 of race 1 start in reverse order, decided by an out the of hat draw (like BTCC). The rest of the grid is determined by race one finishing order
Race 3 - 40 mins - starting order decided by single qualifying session

Wow. Even trying to write that more simply was very difficult, and I don't think I've achieved that in any case.

It sounds complicated but I think it's pretty well thought :) I like the fast that drivers will have to do at least two good qualifying times in order to be well placed. We will see how it will be but it seems pretty interesting :thumbsup:

Somehow I don't see Channel 4 or Motors TV increasing their TV coverage time so this means a lot more racing has to squeeze into the same amount of TV time for next year...

Hmmm

Still, it might be better value for the fans at the track. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.
