I think they just choose the most marketable ones.

This sounds like such a joke.

Some rather interesting selection processes, if this is accurate.

(tl;dr - one of the unsuccessful drivers claims that they were 5th out of 54 in one of the driving challenges but was still unsuccessful in being chosen)

Another interesting point I have seen elsewhere - the organisers don't seem to have considered the damage that they could do to the careers of the unsuccessful applicants if they aren't making it clear to those applicants why they failed (as in the example above).

Sharon Scolari (another unsuccessful applicant) is also claiming on social media that she made it to the final 8 of the same driving challenge, beating Beitske Visser in the process, and yet was still turned down for a seat. She also claims that before the tests started the drivers signed an agreement voiding any right to challenge the decision of the panel, and now she understands why they had the drivers do that (the implication should be obvious).

Fantastic, I hope this blows up even more.

What a disgrace.

Marylin Niederhauser;

The whole selection process was something special. Some seemed to be seated. I thought I was doing very well compared to others in my group. Certain exercises did not take them into consideration and obviously did not look at the driving skills. Some of the best are no longer there like me and have since then also criticized the public. I can not explain what it really was. Disappointing, I expected something different.

Pretty much every driver search in the history of driver searches has never been about ability, doesn't suprise me that this one is no different,

To be fair, any other selection process wouldn't be so realistic (except that the W Series itself isn't so realistic).

Funny to see that drivers like Legge, Patrick, Simona, Duno ( ), and Sophia Flörsch aren't in the roster. Never heard of any of the selected drivers until now. :whistling:

Duno

Haven't you watched the 2010 Iowa IndyCar race? She was lapped in 10 laps and almost caused a massive crash with Will Power.

Sophia Floersch doesn't like the idea and prefers to race F3 against any gender!

Drivers like Patrick and Flörsch would probably be kept away if they wanted in because their genuine, legitimate success completely undermines the reason for this series.

This sort of discussion around a women league is not new in other non-physical disciplines.

Chess, and Pool, have women leagues. Not because of ability, but because those sports (like motorsports) have much less women even at very early age. Remember that even amongst men, only a handful will rise to the top out of millions of players, so statistically if you want to give the sport visibility and a female champion you better just get women to compete against each other, also drawing more girls to it, etc. Otherwise, by means of sheer numbers and statistics, you will only get a woman in a decade that will be able to compete up top like Sophia or Danica. It's too easy for these lucky few women to shut this idea down just because *they* didn't need it.

The above is independent from the problems mentioned in this thread - bad management and stupid decisions happen in all series, but you don't see people questioning their very existence because of that. W is a good idea, it deserves a shot, and deserves a better and healthier start which unfortunately it is not getting. Using these political/management problems to discredit the very concept of a women series would be dishonest.

I think it's a terrible idea for many of the reasons already discussed, but it does definitely deserve a shot.

Final selection test is upon us. Track action in Almeria begins tomorrow. I read the core part starts on Saturday and will last four days.

The 18 names will be announced on the 28th March.

I wonder how much info they will release between Saturday and the actual announcement. I get the impression the spread in times will be pretty massive.

Also brave of them to make this the first run of the car itself. I haven't even heard of a shakedown taking place.

Channel 4 in the UK has picked up the rights to broadcast the series.

That's a blow for the BBC. A because of them feminist agenda, and b because they've lost the rights to broadcast most other sports.
