That other angle shows the marshals were fucking lucky too.

Can't believe nobody's actually posted a video of the accident yet. I was watching that 2016 clip thinking it was the crash.

It might as well still be the 1950s with some of the "safety" features that modern tracks have. The FIA & FIM need to be held fully accountable for accidents like these.

It feels good to be finally proven right about tarmac run off areas, anybody with a brain knows they are dangerous for years, yet people in charge don't know this. Utter incompetence and they are only in charge because friends put them there, these so called experts have blood on their hands. Grass and gravel, the only thing that should be next to a track

Just saw it, car is flying like in videogame. Crazy, the halo saved him. Now we know why it is there, he would have smashed into the tyres with head...

Well if they hadn't put a fucking great asphalt runoff that the drivers use down in the name of safety, then followed it up by a stupid sausage curb (that were originally scrapped back in the 80s because of this) in the name of track limits, then maybe, just maybe, the car wouldn't have been flying through the air like a paper plane and there wouldn't have been a need for the HALO.

I know you're probably being sarcastic but the FIA is like Government, create the problem then invent the solution is preferred instead of simply not creating the problem in the first place.

Ridiculous crash, no doubt the halo probably saved his life, as much as I dislike it. I've hated tarmac runoff with a passion since it became de rigeur. Hopefully these incidents will see a sea change back to gravel & grass. But saying that, wasn't the Parabolica specifically changed to tarmac to meet the demands of bike racing?

On safety, aesthetics, quality of racing/"the show" and instilling driver discipline no argument will ever convince me gravel is worse than tarmac. I hate the fact when drivers know they won't make a corner they often en masse floor it through the runoff instead. And I'm not making a judgement on the Hubert/Correa crash there.

And regarding sausage kerbs, I thought they learned the lesson from Tereschenko's huge air at Spa in 2014:

Fuck me that was insane.

Beating a dead horse here, but the gravel there should extend right up to the green astro turf...infact if they are going to insist on astro turf after the curbs make it half a cars width, not the large strip that it is. That way there is that tiny bit of leeway for running wide but punishes you if more than half of the car off the track, and hey....none of this track limits nonsense.

Peroni just kept his foot in it....and again like the accident last week, I feel this was a product of the race track environment that drivers are growing up with.

Also, how thick is the idea to put the sausage kerb parallel to the track? That's just asking for trouble, it serves no purpose other than being a ramp.

In the second chicane it's a kerb and then gravel at the exit. Perfect example of how you stop them going wide. They go wide, they loose time. No car has run with 4 wheels outside the track there all weekend. Parabolica was fine with grass and gravel, don't recall any serious accidents there in the recent past. Didn't F2 have a big one there last year or the year before, a car getting t-boned due to the tarmac runoff.

The thing that gets me about that crash is, that was the F3 race

How the fuck bigger would that have been if it was hit by an F2 or even an F1 car....

Dreads thinking about, they'd have cleared that fence for one, landing in the marshals zone and the old banking...

Jesus the Fuck Christ....... :8:

IMO it's stupid that you had to have that kind of accident with sausage kerb to remove it. And it is the same with all tracks. When Tereschenko flew in Spa they didn't say "hey, let's remove it from all tracks". They've just remove it from that corner (if I remember right). There was that big high speed flip on the inside runoff of Raidillon during Euroformula race. Then, last year in Macau. I don't know, it need to happen in every track to see that it's dangerous? If you have so many problems with it, then you should remove it from all tracks, not waiting for another one because "Hey, Macau is Macau, maybe here will not be the same"

I don't understand why it can't simply be track - > gravel or track - > grass, like at a few of the road courses they use for Indycar/Nascar.

The best drivers in the world shouldn't need a curb or a bit of astro turf to allow them to run wide. If the track is designed so they need to keep every part of their wheels on the track at all times, then the track is, in my view, performing its function as a track.

Peroni will be around a month on a back brace and advised to stay laying down during that period. Out for the season.
