I just hope this finally talk some sense into the people who run the series. This was longforseen and it couldn't happen with a biggest bang.

I find it real shame that it always seems to happen at the last even of the season. I mean, recently we had (as I can remember) : Greg Moore, Dale Earnhardt, Michael Park, now Dan Wheldon. Why ? I mean I don't think they are losing their concentration because its the last race, so what ! Destiny you can say yes, but damn shit what a brutal way to call it back ! :(

Earnhardt died in the first race.

Actually, Earnhardt died in the first race of the season and Park died in the 12th round of the championship.

You know guys, I'm proud to be here with you, and I'm glad that you are here. In these moments, just knowing that there are other people to share your feelings with, it means the world to me. Well I don't know if I expressed myself correctly, at this point I can't do that even in italian. Just want to say thanks for being here.

Yeah, it's good to know there are other people that feel the same way (or worse) than you do about this whole situation.

God, i feel so heartless compared to you guys.

I always felt the same. I'm very unemotional, cold, maybe not calculating, but it can make you feel quite guilty.

Poor form from Sky Sports for not showing the 5 lap salute.

Please do not quote troll posts.

I normally feel saddened during deaths and injuries, but tend to shrug them off. Todays was different somehow. The entire broadcast was so emotional that I couldn't hold back the tears today.

I usually don't follow IndyCar so please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've gathered, Wheldon only started in this race because of that 5 million $ prize? Is that correct?

Dan would of wanted to race and taken the opportunity to do so given the $5 million up for grabs or not. He was a racer, he just wanted to race. Simple as that.

considering they made such a fuss of the $5mil prize maybe they should do the respectful thing and pay it out as planned.

That is true, you could tell in his voice in the VS broadcasts that what he really wanted to do was get in a car and drive.

He was a true racer, for sure.

one of my greatest idols had gone away

this is a sad thing. One great man is gone, left a loving wife and 2 kids.

The legend stays, RIP and stay hungry because YOU ARE THE BEST.

I appreciate your speed and talent, we'll miss you.

I hope they do this, the money won't make his family happy again, but it'll give them one less thing to worry about.

Given the fact that he was due for a ride next year and that there was no reason to worry about losing racing equipment (last race for the chassis), he may very well have been in a car regardless of the $5-million bounty.

Thanks. I was not under the impression that he was doing it for the money; just did not know what that $5 million Challenge was all about.
