Yes, must have been an horrible view, and more for a first F2 race.

I don't know if there is any picture of the left side of the car, but
Spoiler:
I still believe that Correa's car noise had totally penetrated inside Hubert's car, and crushing the driver's chest.

I was there for the weekend. after witnessing this I walked 5 minutes to Eaurouge into the F1FanZone and there's a huge party going with a stage and everyone having a great time. V odd feeling. Took this video if you're interested in seeing the cockpit post-accident? Poor guy didn't stand a chance.

Nothing graphic, just shows them craning the car onto the recovery truck. Got some other pictures of the aftermath too if you are interested?

**Warning - aftermath of a fatal accident**

Thanks a lot for your video, friend.
I guess they drapped it to hide what I guess it is: a big hole on the side of the car...

So terrible...

If you have pictures, you're welcome to post these here, I guess some of us will be interested.

Apparently Correa's still in intensive care. Is that...normal? Nearly a week on?

Stuff that's been posted elsewhere suggests he very nearly lost his legs. If that's true, I can see the hospital wanting to keep him under closer observation just to guarantee that nothing goes wrong.

Intensive care doesn't mean coma.
It can be a vascular procedure, for example, which would need a lot of surveillance.
(I know that's not the same era, but remember Ronnie Peterson).

Yeah, I was thinking it likely means the injuries to his legs must have been pretty major. They've kept it pretty quiet

And right on queue:

Quote:
Statement from Juan Carlos and Maria Correa regarding the condition of their son Juan Manuel Correa:

First of all, on behalf of our son we wish to thank everyone within and outside the motorsports community for the wonderful and caring get well wishes that we have received, as well as messages for a speedy recovery. We are confident that Juan Manuel will review them all himself once he is back in charge of his social media accounts.

Honoring our son’s straight-to-the-point and honesty that characterizes him, we wish to update you on the status of his injuries and physical condition.

As time has progressed, new complications have surfaced as a consequence of the massive impact he suffered Saturday in Belgium. On his arrival to London, Juan Manuel was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. This is an injury considered common in high impact accidents such as this one. Unfortunately, this injury resulted in Juan Manuel falling into Acute Respiratory Failure. Juan Manuel is currently in an Intensive Care Unit that specializes in respiratory injuries. At this point of time he is an in induced state of unconsciousness and under ECMO support. Juan Manuel is in critical but stable condition.

We are confident that our son will surprise us like he always does with his tremendous fighting will and strength and will recover completely.

At this time, we kindly request that our privacy and space be respected. As a family, we need to pull together and be 100% there for Juan Manuel.

Maria and I wish to take this opportunity to give our condolences to the Hubert family for their loss. Our hearts are broken, and we can only imagine the pain this loss has brought them.

The mortality rate is high for that condition - 35 to 50 percent

Yes but reading around, it seems that's usually because ARDS is associated with other serious health issues that are the main cause of death, rather than ARDS itself: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/acute-res ... -syndrome/

Even so, it's still very serious

I just hope he survives. The word "surprise" in the press release doesn't sound good, as if they'd be surprised if he gets better. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I work as a physician in Intensive Care. ARDS is a very common and serious condition in critically ill intensive care patients. He is young and otherwise healthy, so his chances are better than other ones. Very often a tracheotomy has to be performed in order to "wean" the patient from the respirator once acute ARDS is treated.
