We don't plan venturing into the town center for the start, getting into there is bad enough on any regular day let alone a Sunday, I just looked at the map and they come down a huge hill (Cockshot Hill) then turn sharp right into Prices Lane just after the start, that is going to be an interesting bit with all the traffic islands so we'll probably stand there (actually it won't be interesting because it's marked as Neutralised on the map, whatever that means), if I can get my camcorder to work I'll take that with me.

Sorry for going off topic guys LOL.

I can drag it back on topic (sort of) by pointing out that one of the teams is part-owned by Nigel, Leo and Greg Mansell.

I found Las Vegas exciting to watch up until the crash.

And if they raced like that again, especially now with semi-closed wheels and other safety features in place, I imagine I'd find it exciting again.

I can't help it, and I'm not going to lie. I enjoyed it in the same way you enjoy a scary film when you know (or suspect) something pretty terrifying is shortly going to happen.

That's your onion, and that's fine, but the Freedom 100 at Indy this year was very similar to Vegas and I didn't enjoy it. I found it terrifying.

“I’m truly sorry for putting the team and our sponsors in a difficult position, but this is the hardest decision I have ever made in my racing career. I've come to realize I’m not comfortable on the ovals and no longer wish to compete on them. I want to stress that I am not finished racing and to this end, I would love to continue with Foyt Racing, but that’s something we need to discuss in the future.”

So that's him done with single seaters then. Guess he'll end up in sports cars or touring cars if he's going to make a career out of racing.

Regarding the pack racing debate, I do understand the fans of it to a certain extent but I ultimately prefer the spread out racing with handling and tire wear (and preferably a good dose of horsepower as well) as key factors. It's been covered a lot but there's really not much fun in watching the pack racing that Indycar had inadvertently developed in the 2001-2011 era because it was predictable, boring, and extremely dangerous. Not only were the drivers not in a position to have much influence on their race position, they didn't even have much influence on their safety.

Some may ask why stock car pack racing is so much more beloved than the open wheel variety. I can only speak for myself on this one, and my opinion is because all those issues I mentioned earlier are much less exaggerated in stock car racing on their plate tracks. Yes, the plate has them underpowered and yes they are often at each other's mercy but there is enough room for the teams and drivers to find advantages through tuning and driving techniques respectively. It varies with the packages they run (some have been exciting, others mediocre, and a few were downright shitty) but the general theme has been much more exciting to watch than the open wheel pack races. Plus, with the cars being much bigger, safer, and 20-30 mph slower the fear has been massively reduced. Stock car drivers typically only have to worry about their race fate, not their actual fate when they pack race. That makes it much more easy and pleasant to watch.

they better do something with the grid penalties next year cuz thats just plain stupid right there the guys who qualifies 16th could be starting on pole. and if a slower car is on pole then gets passed on the start we all gotta hear will and team penske bitch again........ :D

For me, this was the top package where they really were going fast and not much draft to pack them togheter...

Oh, God, how did I do that?

I do have many layers, but most of them are made of fat.

To get this thread back on track, qualifying spoilers ahoy;
After 16 cars, Marco is on the pole. Power is 3rd, RHR is 10th.
Newgarden 4th fastest.

Justin Wilson and Simona did not participate. RHR qualified 17th and Dario all the way back in 19th. Marco on pole and he is one that doesn't have a penalty.

The cars do look seriously unstable in the wake of another car.
