Ok, this is not a straight quote, but Barfield said in the press conference that he wanted to have "more gray area" (what's clean move and what's not) on the rule book and him having the final call would help with consistency as he is the man who has to face all the drivers before and after every race. He felt that over the last few years Indycar race control has been judging how people walk and how they should walk and given penalties on that basis. He doesn't want to be telling how everyone should walk but rather come out with his view when someone makes a dangerous move.

I have a posite feeling that he's going to make racing better if he has this kind of point of view. If you compare it to what Brian Barnhart said sometimes about blocking and penalties, he was more like a totalitarian who insisted that there should be penalties even from the slightest mistakes.

Also, could we please make some sort of rule about pictures of the new car? I mean, everytime someone posts a picture of it, at least half a dozen people goes screaming how ugly it is and nothing else. We've all heard that all ready, it's not big news anymore. Like mew said, it's like with the F1's front wing from 2009- onwards. We didn't like it but now we've get used to it. Shouting about the ugliness doesn't change a one bit about it, except the post count on this forum.

It's not really a that big deal what it looks like if the racing is good or happening at all. I for one don't want the old Dallara back and I know that we can't get the mid-90's look. The DW12 is what we got and it's here for this year. Next year it would look a bit different.

I just realized what the car looks like. Like a Platypus.

Would be so much better without the airbox.

Edit: Well, the right livery makes the car really decent:

You would love being in a NASCAR thread in 2007. As soon as the COT rolled out, virtually EVERYONE bitched about how ugly it was. Matter of fact, I hated how it looked as well. But you're right, as time passes, we get used to the look. Although, NASCAR didn't (due to said bitching from fans), since they got rid of the wing in favor of the flat spoiler. Took out the splitter braces as well.

That being said, the DW12 chassis is ugly, but what can you do? Aero kits aren't out until 2013, so this is as good as we'll get.

Car is ugly, unfortunately, there's no how to keep punching knifepoint because no matter what livery there is, the shape of it, specially sideways is extremely unbalancing. For a better looking car, we'll have to wait 2013. The real problem is a possible fall of popularity the series can suffer this year with exotic cars on track.

Ugly cars don't cause a series to drop in popularity. As long as the racing is good who cares about looks?

On another note, what happened to all those moaning about the back not being a proper openwheeler...

I was referring more to the livery than the chassis itself. But yes, both the livery and chassis on that ride are disasters.

Justin Wilson and engineer Bill Pappas have signed with Dale Coyne for 2012

Those wing flaps on the front wing looks bloody massive.

I remember I grumbled about F1's high noses and extended sides of the rear wing when it came out. But I got used to it afterwards.

Did you notice that it has just stickers with red and yellow masking tape on plain carbon? I'm quite sure it's just a test of how some shapes work on the car, not a final scheme. At least I hope so.

That Gillette car Beetzle posted is much better. And I'm quite sure that once we have 26 cars on the track charging for the first green flag of the season, we forget the esthetics and focus on racing.

Oh how dare you? There's no room for that kind of nonsense 'round here. :p

The DW12 looks good in National Guard colours.

More teams need to post pics of their new cars.

It's obviously not final, but the weird looking camo strip will ruin whatever else they put on the car. The National Guard paintschemes have been horrible as long as I can recall.

That Gillette livery is awesome even if the car itself isn't.

Yeaa, I can't think of any decent National Guard schemes, it's that awful camo they use.

Any time I see any time of camo outside of combat or hunting environments, I'm annoyed. Easiest way to spot a douche in public = camo ballcap.

If it's a racecar the best camouflage would be all grey tarmac texture.

But you'd never spot it at a Tilke circuit.

It's all part of the "safety plan."

First, they pave over the entire circuit.

Then, they paint the cars to match the tarmac.

When you're just getting used to not being able to see the cars, then they take the cars away too and blare engine noises over the loudspeakers and have computer generated video on the jumbotrons. You *think* you're watching a race. And it's completely safe.

My God! So the Natinal Guard camo is just the phase 1 on the route to neutralize all the racing series from the world? 8O

This must be stopped by any means necessary! Bring Yuji Ide to Indycars! :flag:
