This. Sato has made stupid mistakes his entire career. Whilst this one was understandable, it was still unceccesary and classic Sato. Dario didn't win this, Sato lost it.

Pity about Sato's mistake, damp squib finish etc. but what a top 3 (I did get a little emotional) and what a race! Great fun. Congrats Dario.

i mean seriously, what other driver would crash battling for the lead on the last lap of the indy 500

Even if you do think it was Sato's fault, only a retard would call that a "hilarious blunder". Last lap at Indy; how could he not give it a shot?

I don't think Sato would've been passed by Dixon etc if he backed it down a bit, but then again, I have no idea how these cars drive. Dario did what he needed to in order to win, but I hate Ganassi, and Dario already has 2 wins, so I didn't care to see him or Ganassi win another one.

I think most are just frustrated with the letdown on a potentially awesome storyline/exciting finish.. I know I am. At least the race itself was very good. Too bad that last yellow wasn't a bit later to prevent a restart and let Tony get the win.

9/10 race IMO.

We should have more oval races, looks like the DW12 is driving awesome on it.

Classic Sato! Hope he manages to stick with indycars, and has a proper crack at it again for many more years to come. Having said that, I'm really pleased that Dario ended up winning again. A great race :D

Most undeserved win by Dario.

To be clear, I'm not resentful because he won, and I'm not resentful because he wins a lot. I'm upset because he won in such a cowardly fashion.

Yes!

I've just worked out who Sato is, he's the Anti-Biffle.

I was the first to bitch and moan when Biffle just stuck behind kenseth in the Daytona 500 and didn't even try and win the race for himself.

Sato is the exact opposite, there was no way he was not going to try for that gap with the prospect of being an Indy 500 winner in front of him.

I respect that a hell of a lot more than "play it safe" Biffle tbh.

Such a shame that Sato couldn't pull it off, would have been great to see. No one to blame but himself though unfortunately, if he'd have just waited until later in the lap he'd have got it. Meh. :(

Apart from the ending though, that was a great race we saw today. Constant action and close racing (new car worked brilliantly) and thankfully no one got hurt. That was just what Indycar needed - they may have earned themselves a few new fans today.

When I saw Sato spinning, a flashback in my head started instantly. For me it was just like in the 1989 when Emmo won it and Little-Al bite the dust. And as much as back in the day (well, later on really, I saw that race first time in the late 90's) I and many others hated and blamed Fittipaldi for that move, it is the same thing that's been going on here. Majority in 1989 wanted to see the guy in the wall to win it, majority wanted to see Sato winning today.

Takuma went for it, knowing that it is his last shot today, it just didn't pay off.

Right, you've had your moan, we all know Dario is worse than Hitler, now it's time to calm down.

+1.

I just don't get the point why everybody seems to hate Franchitti. It looks like Franchitti is now "as gay as Jeff Gordon", as he had won too much. What the fuck, guys?

Sato tried, Franchitti didn't block but didn't give position too, both did what they had to do. If Sato tried earlier, it would have been OK, maybe. If DArio moved, maybe he would have gone out of the racing line, running over marbles and crashed too. 50/50, because they are simply racing drivers.

Now for the biggest letdown of the whole weekend, the Coca-Cola 600.

Defending the lead of the Indy 500 in the final lap is now cowardly. Every other driver on the grid would have made that move, and some would have made it worse. Drivers were making more "cowardly" moves than that when defending was banned, and not it isn't.

Again. He had to do the pass in T1 IMO, because on the Back Dario could stay close enough to re slingshot.

It T1, Dario would lose more momentum, job done. I would have done the same thing.
