During Summer city council signed a 3 year deal with new promotor of the race and they just forgot to mention to them that they have decided to change the track.

So new promotor got screwed since they already managed to get Honda to be the event sponsor and the event was on it's way to be profitable.

Jesus that sounds even worse.
Someone's gonna get sued over that then.

Meh, Edmonton is no real loss imo... the only thing that would be bad is if an alternative cannot be found. Else we have a 4 week gap in the schedule.

I've read that Randy wants a replacement also in Canada, so I'm thinking that Cleveland is out of the question, as much as I would love it.

Hopefully they go to Mosport, Mont Trembland or hell, even Montreal!.

The economic climate has changed so much, so it's in every logical economic sense to expect a renewal.

Honestly, losing Edmonton is not a big deal. There are circuits like Road America, Cleveland, Mont Trembland, Mosport, Montreal that could be used.

Mosport is out of the question without major safety improvements. Mont Tremblant on the other hand would be a nice choice.

True, the development standard at Mosport seemed to stall at the mid 80s level. Mont Tremblant proved a worthy comeback in 2007 and could be given a shot. Don't think Montreal is in the hunt since they've taken over NASCAR few years ago.

USAC runs exclusively on the ovals, right? This would be a good thing when IRL started, but now it's too late. Without any road racing experience those guys would get spanked by some mediocre Europeans even in the Lights as Vernay had showed this year.

Indycar should install a road racing junior series with old formula BMW cars. You could even set a 28 Americans, 8 foreighners rule at this level without any argueing.

Yeah, but they will be great on the ovals, and they need to get experience in mid engined, winged cars. The drivers are very capable as well. This is a great thing.

IZOD IndyCar boss Randy Bernard isn't giving up on the idea of replacing the Edmonton Indy with another race in Canada in 2011, but he admitted that it won't be easy.
And if the series can't find another site, he has no problem with a 16-race calendar in 2011.
It won't kill us to have 16 events, Bernard told the Indianapolis Star. I'd rather do (a new one) right than do it wrong. But I'm optimistic we'll find one. I'm not giving up.
Bernard also said that talks right now have included the Octane Racing Group of Montreal that dropped out of the Edmonton race after the city sought $2.3 million to repave part of the City Airport where the race was to be held next July
Bernard said two Quebec sites have been considered, although neither is the Formula One circuit in Montreal where only two weekends of racing a year are allowed and Octane also promotes the NASCAR Nationwide Series race in August.
A race could be held, however, at Mount Tremblant, where the former Champ Car World Series raced as well as a street race in Quebec City.
Bernard also said that Vancouver and Calgary also have been mentioned as possibilities

The site below claims that GM will re-enter IndyCar racing with Chevrolet and a Twin-Turbo V6.

According to the source, the announcement should be made next friday, and will include Ganassi as one of the teams using that engine.

On the other hand, according to M. Pruett, Randy Bernard has claimed that is "pure speculation".

*sigh*

I hope they go to Vancouver. I was thinking about going to Edmonton next year but...

Quebec City would be an interesting location. Mont-Tremblant is an odd circuit. I'm not sure if it would suit these cars...which reminds me to re-watch the CC race there.

How the hell can GM afford such an undertaking?
