Bloody hell, this is the last thing Indycar needs, in my opinion Bernard and Barfield are doing steller jobs and getting rid of them would be a stupid move.

Andretti would have leveraged his teams meaning to the series against the IndyCar board of directors. Threaten to take his cars, drivers and races and go find somewhere else to play. Plus the loss of Mario Andretti as a voice for IndyCar.

With the rumoured Andretti NASCAR team next year, that may be more than just a threat.

But seriously, beyond the loss of a team to a series that needs more of them, Andretti's relevance is on name alone, like Petty. IMO the role they play in the sport's future is minimal, beyond attracting the most uninformed fans.

And if they do go to NASCAR it won't be for greater input into the sport - the France family regime makes Indycar look like an owner-run sport by comparison.

Kalkhoven of all people should be kept well away from series management decisions.

Boom! Spot on. Sure in the mid 90s right after Petty retired and still had the STP 43 running around for Petty Enterprises, and then Kyle out racing for them, the had relevance. When Adam was up and coming, they had relevance. Now? It doesn't matter to anyone really. It's neat that the "RPM" cars were on the front row at Charlotte, but Richard's actual influence and Petty Enterprises are long gone. He's there on name only, and will eventually fade into the background. He had his time in the sun, as did the Andretti's. I assure you with the way Marco acts like a crybaby, nobody would be sad to see him, or his father deflect to NASCAR.

Taken from SPEED Channel forums:

Quote:
Robin Miller on JMV show...

1. Definitely calls out the Andretti's
2. Issues with Mario go back to Las Vegas race and RB not restarting the race
3. Called John Barnes a REPTILE!!!
4. HG Board definitely on board with RB, very happy with him
5. Still feels RB needs help with the racing side. Derrick Walker getting a serious push
6. Hinting RB may need to replace IZOD before end of contract
7. Believes RB is planning on sticking around and not going anywhere

Robin's now done an article on it:
http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/ ... ve-revolt/

And one from Curt Cavin:

Not restarting the Vegas race was a breath of fresh air, just because Mario used to carry on racing past burning bodies in cars in the 60's and 70's doesn't mean it's a tradition that should continue for traditions sake. Nobody with any sense wanted that race to go ahead in the first place, so cancelling it after what happened was the best decision all things considered.

As Dave said, neither Kalkhoven, Walker or Andretti should be allowed anywhere near series management roles.

Nascar is on a downward spiral atm, with Indycar on the up, so Andretti can feel free to defect anytime he wants, just like Danica, Indycars will continue without them and probably be better off long term.

Oh do fuck off, you withered old cunt.

Were you that desperate for another body in the morgue and 3 more requiring hospital stays?

If Michael is being honest in saying that he has nothing to do with it, then he has a responsibility to persuade his father to stay at home for future events.

Give me a goddamn break. They did the right thing by not restarting that race. Nobody wanted that race to go on, and I bet if they were told they had to go on, a whole host of drivers might have said "no". For christ's sakes, they had just watched a good friend get killed. I wouldn't want to go on after that.

And I do hope Randy stays with the IndyCars. He's the best thing IndyCar's got going for them so far.

Does anyone actually have Mario's reasoning for wanting the race to continue or is this all just conjecture?

Believe it was because carrying on after big/fatal accidents is what has always been done. Las Vegas was one of the very few occasions where a race has been called off after a fatal crash (Off the top of my head I can't actually remember another occasion this happened).

Also read that Mario's problem with Randy is more because during the Driver/Team meeting at Las Vegas Mario was told to leave the room by Randy as he had no official reason to be there (Been neither a driver or team owner).

Well the only other IRL race ever cancelled was Charlotte 99, but that was spectators killed. CART continued at Michigan 98 when fans were killed, and Fontana 99 when Moore was killed. Krosnoff was killed at the very end of the 96 Toronto race so it was ended 2 laps early.

Perhaps in Indycar but not in the mainstream since about 1978 (F1 aside).

Terry Schoonover 1984, Grant Adcox 1989, John Nemechek 1997, Tony Roper 2000... All races went on. NASCAR doesn't stop them either. Darrell Russel NHRA 2004 round 2 fatality Mark Niver Seattle 2010 Semi final fatality.. Races went to completion.

Races don't stop because people die.

Didn't stop. Las Vegas did stop, and that was the right decision.

Not really. It was plainly obvious that the circumstances at Las Vegas were never going to lead to a safe race. Drivers were scared, fans were scared and we'd all watched as someone was killed because the track was in no way suited to open wheel racing.

Stopping the race was the right thing to do, regardless of whether it was out of respect for Dan or the safety of the other drivers.

It's not opinion. It's common sense.
