02:50 is doable. Not sure if I can stay up until the end though.

Do you meant 1:50 GMT or BST though?

Yeah, you're right, my GMT time was out an hour, should read:

The green flag is due at 17.50 PST, which is 00.50 GMT, 01.50 BST, 02.50 CET (and 20.50 EST)

So for arguments sake, the race starts in 4 hours 40 minutes.

Green in around 2 hours time? Gonna be tough to stay awake, but I'll give it a go as I have nothing to do tomorrow.

Pack racing: never again.

What exactly did you dislike about pack racing?

(Well, he asked....)

Putting aside the old jokes about racing allegiances here, what I hate about motorsport at any level is cars with far too much power than grip .

Pack racing in Indycar was just a case of putting your foot to the floor, holding the inside line and...errr....doing good pitstops I guess.
There was even a race back in the mid part of the last decade where 2 team mates ran side by side and admitted they'd decided to cover each line knowing no-one else would get a run on them.
The commentators would go wild about a side by side finish and yet it just wouldn't engage with me, it was just too staged.
In any other series when cars run side by side, you feel like the drivers have earnt it and because of its rarity.
In the IRL the whole oval package was created to ensure the cars ran side by side the entire time so it just didn't feel as earnt as other series. It was just stage managed.
Heck even NASCAR's plate races are a side effect of trying to slow the cars down, as was the handford device in CART.
Yes it had an entertaining side effect which both series weren't slow to cotton on to, but when they put those devices on their cars, their primary reason was to control speeds, not artificially enhance the show.
Even NASCAR plate races aren't 100% action, as tyres wear off or runs develop it spaces out occasionally, you never got that chance with the IRL's constant pack.

Fact is, as was pointed out elsewhere, it's not like the pack racing events put another million on the TV ratings, or indeed brought about any noticeable spike in attention to the series (except for after Vegas last year and no-one wanted that kind of publicity.
So exactly what was the point of racing around in one dangerous, artificial pack, putting our drivers in harms way needlessly (and don't give me that dren about all motorsport being dangerous, some are artificially and pointlessly more dangerous than others) when no-one in the wider world was giving two shits about it more than any other race?

I don't know whether this question was genuine or it was just an attempt to get me to go on a rant so I'd inch closer to getting banned but that's my genuine opinion on it.

All that said, thankfully it seems to be something from the past now so all of this is just my paranoia about it ever coming back, which in all likelyhood it won't based on this season.

And I have to say with the line-up of tonight's race I'm getting a bit of an "epic championship climax" feel about it, in the same way I did at the NASCAR finale last year with Tony Stewart storming through the field to win.

Tonight is gonna be a good one boys....;)

Don't you mean too much grip compared to power?
