Discussions with bitter CART fans is like wrestling a pig.

I'm beginning to be ashamed that I sided with CART during the split. :(

We're not bitter CART fans, we're racing fans that knows that the inevitable will happen very soon.

Your inevitable is probably different than mine. I can easily see the series returning to 1970s style USAC malaise soon.

The Indy 500 is down but not out for the count. Yet. (The IRL folks need to do something quick. Booting out Tony George was a good start.)

IRL's hardly the worst racing series out there, though.

As we're discussing ratings, how does the ALMS do? A fair few of its races are on network TV, how can it afford that when the IRL can't?

Actually F1's problems in the US stem from Indy '05 and the fact there isn't a race there anymore, plus there isn't an American driver in F1, let alone running up front.

No US GP for almost all of the 90s probably didn't help F1's profile.

ALMS rating thread on TrackForum. Kind of on par with IRL, actually. Maybe slightly higher, but not by a lot.

Richmond had five drivers and a former driver (current radio guy) apologize for the race.

And they made changes to the car and they're not going back there next season.

Which is a lot more than what DTM has done.

Whine
moan
poor ratings
crap series
CART was better
boohoo
IRL is dying
Tony George sucks.

That seems to be the general feeling in this thread. Every single week. Do you not think it's time to stop caring so much if you really dislike the series that much? It's pretty amusing how much time you devote to following the series and searching for the ratings each week. Go and watch crap racing in F1. At least the ratings will meet your expectations :)

And they addressed that. But we'll ignore that for the sake of pretending this isn't bitterness.

There's a big difference. F1 is not dependent on the American market. IndyCar, however, is dependent on the American market. F1 is the second most watched sport in the world. IndyCar has never been second in anything.

I think even the Indy fans will admit that there are some problems with the series. It just gets tiring hearing them after every single race, especially when it's more a case of "lol irl sux" instead of a proper discussion. Maybe we should have a "criticise the irl here" thread as well :p

We're all frustrated at that fact. But some of us chose not to troll the forums, posting ratings just for the sake of getting our rocks off about a series that died the best part of 6 years ago now.

Split it and made it so much worse, no wonder it is so vulnerable to the "trolls".

But they won't have a chance to try it at Richmond since the IRL isn't going back.

You cried the racing at Richmond suck. They stop going there and now your crying they aren't going there?

IRL addressed the issue.

IMHO if Indycar can make the jump to HD (and I don't mean Versus HD, more like ESPNHD or any other HD Channel that's on both cable & dish) they should get a big jump in view ratings. Having made the jump recently, I don't want to see any sport that isn't in HD (the reason I cancelled SPEED Channel, how many years will it take F1?).

Months, apparently. There are rumours that next year F1 will be broadcast in HD.
