Ellis said it best, but comparing what NASCAR does with what indycars do is very flawed logic. One has fenders that negate most incidental impacts, the other has open wheels that almost guarantee a major wreck from the slightest rub. One has enough weight and lack of aero devices to minimise the chance of going airborne, the other reaches higher speeds and is lighter. One has a rollcage, windshield and roof protecting the driver, the other...

Really, what's so hard to understand here? No driver has implied doing away with pack racing will remove all risk, just that it will remove a major contributing factor, which I don't think anyone can argue. The risks of injury are much higher in an open-wheel, open cockpit racecar, and shoving them in a 30-deep wad consistently going 230mph with concrete and chainlink inches away is just asking for fatalities. Why opt for worse racing with the side effect of much higher risk when you can go another way?

It's like boxers told they are not allowed to hit each other or Darts players playing on different boards and then seeing who got the best score!

The thing is, "pack racing" is in a sense telling boxers not to hit each other. The packs only exist because the car is compromised, horsepower wise, and has aerodynamics that make running behind someone so much more efficient (hence no one can pass). It's not really good racing, to be honest.

Oh I agree, that's why I said if the drivers are worried about how dangerous it is, it's time for them to retire. You can take the cars off the cookie cutters, put wheel guards on them, and try eliminate the pack racing as much as they can on the safety grounds, but at the end of the day, it's racing and it's dangerous, if it was safe and easy everybody would do it.

And don't get me started again on this theory that taking the cars off the cookie cutters is going to magically stop them flying, read back a few pages for my views on that particular belief

By all means try and reduce the pack racing, it's unnecessary to manufacturer it like they do, just risking things for the sake of it, but you ain't ever gonna get rid of it totally. Boycotting a race at Texas but still agreeing to race at Fontana (like the drivers are talking about) is the most insanely stupid thing I've ever heard outside of something coming from George Osborne.

The other Andretti's car has grown some DW12-inspired bodywork.

Dude. You should ship me some Sun Drop and RC and instead of using bubble wrap, pad the box with a polo shirt.

According to this there is a contract problem between Dragon and Lotus. God I hope not.

Fortunately Castroneves has been one of the drivers who defends the most oval racing, that's good. Can't say the same about TK though.

I read the no engines part, didn't see anything about a contract dispute.
