That's also my first taste of the Indy. Now it's THE race of the year for me. Lap records were broken in qualifying. Nelson P...

The one last year was so heartbreaking that it has to be mentioned.

They talk about it each year. The track, she has a say in the winner each and every year.... Last year, looking back, she made one of the most poignant calls to date...

What's the most memorable Indy 500 for you? :) I only really started watching a few years ago, so it has to be 2011. The race wasn't fantastic, but then it looked as if the young American kid would win. Then bam, no. Wheldon's victory, kinda fate really. The team radio at the end sticks with me.

Goddammit, the CART-era cars are nice all-around. Wished IndyCar took those and beef them up to toady's safety standards.

Goddammit, the CART-era cars are nice all-around. Wished IndyCar took those and beef them up to toady's safety standards. They were really safe by the end of the 90s. The only unfortunate injuries happened because the accidents were absolutely huge, not because of the car. Especially, they were not...

The same way that poles behind a catch fence would have saved Danny Boy... That's doubtful. Despite the deaths, IndyCar has always been inherently safe, and that at least we should be thankful for. The new car may be ugly to some, but if its safer, thats the most important thing... That's a big if ...

It's been said before but these cars would look so much better if the sidepods were normalized, rollhoop instead of airbox thing, no rear tire guards, and less downforce on the wings (smaller endplates especially).

There's a fire in the Williams pit!" one journalist announced as he returned from the paddock.

"That'll be Mike Coughlan taking no chances this time and burning the 700-page dossier he picked up at the Mugello test!" came the immediate crack

Well, even in 1996 they had good crowds because the people probably didn't realize their favorites weren't there. Then come 97 when the people got wise and the cars got slow, loud, and ugly nobody showed up.
