Sprint format agreed by all teams for Baku and another race:

Friday: FP1 and qualifying for Sunday
Saturday: Qualifying for the sprint (with shorter Q times) and sprint
Sunday: Race

So 30 minute qualifying and 30 minute sprint on Saturday? And then probably 4 hours of worth pre-qualifying, post-qualifying, pre-race and post-race shows. Because who cares about racing itself?

By 2030 we'll have a 3 minute qualifying (just enough for one lap) followed by three 5 minute sprint races. No GP anymore.

I can live with that. Sprint races have been completely worthless so far (except Brazil) because a mistake could result in a bad grid position on Sunday and it ruined your entire weekend. Now they might want to take a bit more risk on Saturday. Still not too much ofcourse because a damaged car will be difficult to repair on time, but not impossible.
If we have to have sprint races, this might improve it.

It does make it less interesting to visit the track on Saturday. Short qualy and short race results in less time to see cars on track.

They haven't said the actual length of the sessions but the rumour is 12-10-8.

they try to change it but they do it wrong, qualifying for the sprint should be one lap shootout, so people cannot make mistakes or fuck their sprint haha

2 qualifyings, djeez. I thought the sprints were introduced for the new fans with short attention spans.

My suggestion: qualifying on Friday, pole gets a point. Sprints Saturday in reverse championship order, no points. Average classification between qualifying and the sprint race sets the grid for the grand prix.

Practice
Quali
Warm up
Race
No parc ferme between quali and the race and built up spare cars

Why does Friday/Saturday have to be exciting to try and cater for those with little interest any way?

The main benefit of the sprint in my book was they seemed to have a knock on effect in making the race on Sunday better due to some drivers being out of position

Taking that element out of it really ruins the point of it... :slaphead:

It had the opposite effect. Drivers who for some reason had to start from the back, could use the sprint race to gain grid places for the actual race.

I thought that was the whole point of it. This just seems unnecessary, confusing and dumb.

I can see Liberty pitching the sprints to other races and saying it has more potential of profits, so races who are willing to host sprints will have to pay 15% more in their fees to host it

How is that for the sprints: After the sprint you can chose to either not take the championship points but keep your grid position or take the amount of points you earned and go 10 places back?

Vasseur is claiming that the qualifying for sprint will be more "dynamic" so it'll be the return of the progressive knockout qualifying from early 2016

Vasseur: "Hey dawg, I know you like a sprint race, so the qualifying for the sprint is going to be another sprint, and the line up for that will be decided by a mini sprint...."

It's sprints all the way down!
