While Tony is away....

The slippery track made the race quite unpredictable and Verstappen shone again, but it could have been much better race.

So maximum ten minus
- 2 for Charlie ruining proper wet racing for good and have other series imitating him
- 1 for non-existent fight for the lead
- 1 for VSC keeping the gaps large throughout the field.
= 6

because I feel I was left with nothing but frustrations. Drivers could easily make mistakes and drive next to the track without punishment. The start behind the SC was maybe OK (which I doubt) but spending 5 laps behind it was frustrating. The VSC procedure resulting in the front being very widespread.

This race was pretty much a list of the main problems with F1 right now: silly overcomplicated rules, refusal to run in challenging conditions, overzealous driving stewards, nonexistent tyre wear. Had they just grown the balls to race on a wet (quickly drying) track, they may have actually produced an entertaining race despite themselves.

1.

Agree completely, though I voted 2.

would it help if all F1 enthusiasts start to spam the F1.com email accounts with our frustrations? Because I have a feeling they are sitting in an ivory tower and have no clue and probably think they are giving us the best show in the world.

1. Yeah there were a few spins and passes but they were overshadowed by all the stupid shit going on. It was such a depressing display of everything that's wrong with F1 currently that I didn't really care what was happening on track.

Odd that I'm the ray of sunshine, as I said in the main thread it's probably the least exciting wet race I've ever seen but it was still a lot better than this race would've been had it been dry.

Enough passing and incidents to keep things interesting, overtake of the year (again) from Max and great defending too, Alonso trying hard (too hard?) was great too, and yeah all the turn 1 spins threatened to turn this into Brazil 2003 all over again. Almost.
I guess it was such a minor thing but the fact Charlie used VSC instead of a SC early on changed this race from a potential 10/10 to a shit show.
Imagine if Danny, Vettel etc who'd changed to the right tyres earlier would've been able to catch up via the SC period.
Would the Mercedes and Max pit or would they try and stretch it for sicks? If they pitted it would've been great to see them fight back through the field on fresher tyres. If they didn't maybe Danny and Kimi etc would've passed them on track.
Without a doubt, the VSC is bullshit and is ruining races.

5/10

Basicly agree. I give it a 6/10, -4 because of Charlie Waiting (the looooong SC and the VSC)

5, meh.

Voting 0 out of frustration is silly here but if there was an official one on the FIA site I'd do it there. But then it would be countered by moronic Hamilton fanboys voting 10...

Btw, here are the ratings to date. Still quite good average (6.23).

EDIT: Believe it or not, Baku looks to be the lowest rated GP in recent TBK history. Brazil last year was 2.30.

The Fia took away the start excitement and the rest was dull. Only Verstappen made it a bit exciting. So A very hard earned 4/10.
F1 has shoot itslef again in the foot. How do they manage to f... up the simplest things

Baku had very high expectation. Lots of incidents during practice and qualifying. street course with walls close and top speeds of around 340 kph.
but nothing happened...

on the other hand some races had very low expectations but in the end were much better like Spain.

7 - too weak for a wet track race, yet there was some action

Don't forget motorcycle rider killing tarmac run-offs and fuel savings that makes every race a eco-run that makes 24 hours of Le Mans look like a day long qualifying lap. Everytime I see a car with DRS catching up and the red light in the car in front starts to flash before braking, I grin and curse. The driver in front is watching his mirrors and saves fuel when he knows the guy behind can't do a shit. Few laps of this and the other guy gives up, because if he doesn't, he'll ran out of fuel eventually.

The only good thing about this weekend seems to be that the Halo-guillotine will be delayed until 2018.

Gave it a 7! Could have been better and the ridiculous SC period at the start took a lot from it!

Not a good race but I have seen worse, even this year. So I rate it 5.
