Well as a Hamilton fan I sure hope they will surprise us. Looks like he feels at home at the team with not the shitload of PR that was mandatory at Mclaren, and looking at the amount of tattoo's he got throughout the winter they are a lot less controlling.

And the car seems to have the pace too.

please, don't take this personally MaTT, but I won't be surprised at all if Mercedes turns out to be another huge disapointment next weekend and beyond.

Not taken personally at all :), given previous seasons you're perfectly entitled to say that - it's happened before. This season will prove a lot I think. Red Bull are probably still the team to beat, but behind it's pretty close and McLaren will bridge any gap they have pretty quickly you'd imagine.

Mercedes have to consolidate what looks to be a very promising start and then develop, develop, develop. With a motivated Hamilton and Rosberg pushing each other and this being the first proper car off the new tech team conveyor belt, I am really optimistic they're going to make Lewis' move from McLaren look a pretty smart move.

In other words, they now have no excuses and need to step up to the plate.

The best thing Lewis (and Nico) can do is to have his foot permanently up the arse of the engineers and designers, constantly letting them know what he thinks of the car and what needs to be improved.

It's how Renault was able to stay competitive throughout the whole of 2010. Kubica was constantly harassing them to make the car better.

with Costa onboard, maybe they will improve their tire degradation pretty nicely. But it needs to be seen. When it comes to Mercedes, I'll only believe it when I see it :p

If the W04 in competitive and reliable, can we not have the Schumacher fans crying every weekend?

People forget Mercedes had a fast car last year at the start of the season, but they failed in the races. So, if the team have improved the car, I'm not surprised they can challenge for the world title. I think Hamilton is faster then Rosberg. If Hamilton is 0,3s faster than Rosberg and Schumacher(I think he is), and Hamilton drove for Mercedes last year (just imagine), he had pole in the first 3 races.

Okay, you can't compared that, but it is too easy for me to say that Mercedes will not challenge for victories like they say.

In all fairness, the one Tobias has posted must be one of the most clever ones. Using various scenes, matching dialogue. Well done there, well done.

So Button will win.
I predict chaotic race anyway...a kind of 2002/2003 one.

best to keep expectations low. You can only be surprised then.

Of all races, the Melbourne ones are usually those that I can recall least of. Maybe because they can be boring, but more probably because they are very early in the morning, when my brains are still a bit too tired to register everything.

crying will happen no matter what. ;)

If the car is not competitive and unreliable, Lewis fans(the worst of all drivers in this regard) will take crying and whining to a whole new level(if that's even possible considering they already did that the past years despite the guys almost always having car capable of winning)

In my personal view, if the car is really what the most hardcore fans believe it is, then Lewis is fortunate :D

huh??? :?

the whining stuff, I meant

In general, all fanboys are boring, at least to those who aren't fan of the driver in question. Schumi's, Kimi's, Alonso's, Lewis'..... they(we) all are.

When it comes to complaining and playing the victim, I think Lewis' ones are the worst.

I might be mistaken on this but I don't remember many Schumi fans crybabying about the Monaco 2006 punishment as Michael really cheated on that one.

In 2011(for instance) Lewis crashed several times into Massa(and other drivers), despite that, I saw lots of his fans making him the victim, that he was targeted by stewards and other drivers and etc.

There were even ones making it look as if Lewis was a victim of Massa through that year

PS: Among all of those crashes, only once it was Massa's fault(in India, which generated the already legendary Rowan Aktinson's expressions) and even then lot's of people were rating it 50/50 or even putting more blame on Lewis.
