The FIA has eased the restrictions on pit lane access for the media. 25 tabards will be available for journalists and photographers who require pit access during practice sessions.
And on the broadcast side during practice FOM will allow 1 cameraman and 1 reporter from each broadcaster in the pit lane (So we still get Ted during practice on Sky 8) ).

The total ban during qualifying & the race remains, However the FIA will allow some camera crews access to the pit wall (Guessing thats for FOM guys).

There also discussing a minimum stationary pit time which I think would be a terrible idea personally.
They want to improve pit lane safety & thats a good thing to do, However there are ways of doing it without taking away the element of team members competing to have a faster stop than whoever there racing.

2013 Total 639 – DRS 269 – 43%
2012 Total 617 – DRS 136 – 22%
2011 Total 696 – DRS 186 – 27%

What about 2010 or 2009? Did they show that too?
Would be interesting how much the overtaking increased/decreased after bringing DRS in

These days people would bitch about them, imagine Hockenheim with DRS
People were zooming by in a straight line already, with DRS and KERS it'd be like warp speed, the difference between the cars behind and ahead... :p
Not sure DRS would have had much of an impact on the old Hockenheim given how little downforce they ran there anyway, There would be very little drag for DRS to reduce.

The smaller teams with weaker engines used to run flat rear wings almost:

You can't DRS that shit.

Jos Verstappen would never need DRS, he raced with a zeroed wing setup on fast tracks

After 9 races, from 'Clip The Apex':
2008 - 119
2009 - 175
2010 - 292

Total Overtakes for the season:
2008 - 260
2009 - 244
2010 - 547 (1st year of Refueling ban, Most # of On-Track overtakes since 1989)
2011 - 1,152
2012 - 1,143

You have to sign up but Clip The Apex have overtaking stats from all the races going back to 1981:

Old hockenheim would have required a reverse DRS system, get DRS for more downforce in the stadium section.

Drivers will get a 10 place grid penalty if a car is allowed to leave the pits with a loose wheel during any session.

Lame. Penalise the team, not the driver.

I'm conflicted over the pit stop issue.

I like seeing competitive pit stops, any time a team manages to get a sub 3 second stop seems to garner a huge gasp of awe when I'm watching down the pub.

But if there was a minimum pit stop time it'd push the action more towards overtaking on track and no-one could rely on a pit stop to try and gain position if everyone has to be stationary for 5 seconds or whatever it'd be.

Ehhh, I hope they come up with a better solution than a minimum pit time tbh....as I've said before, A1GP style of keeping all team personnel inside the garage until the car comes to a stop would help.
You could even have a button inside that the last person across the line has to push to release the car too....*shrug*

More emphasis on the driver on the in and out lap though.

They've rejected the minimum pit stop idea anyway, no doubt the best teams don't want to lose that advantage.

According to the BBC they're working on a solution whereby wheels just cannot be insecurely attached - ie, ensuring that a mechanic can't give the approval before the wheel is secured.

IMO they should stop the obligation to use both kind of tires during the race, to give option to teams that want to endurance the whole race and give more chance for other teams to achieve podiums or even victories

This is a type of post we see a lot across all F1 fandom...

It's time to wake up and realise this will never happen.

The FIA wants the sport to be exciting, the tyre manufacturer wants their name in lights, as it were and the fans want strategy....

Just thank goodness our pitstops at the moment make on-track passing MORE likely, instead of less as it was 10 years ago...

Post subject:  Re: 2013 Random F1 Discussion

but seeing today's tires is quite unlikely for a car to finish a race with no stops, but teams like Sauber and Lotus would love to finish a race with only one stop for harder tires

James Allison and Rory Bryne for next year at Ferrari. Ferrari will dominate if their engine is pretty good.

They will dominate if they can get their cars (or car) in the 1st or 2nd row in QLF, every year they have problems in QLF. But in race they are very strong, but when they reach P3 position during race the leader (usually Seb) has 30 sec gap and its the last lap...

I like how Horner seems to consider 6 months of F1 as enough additional experience to make his choice. It sounds more like a way to diplomatically say that he thinks Daniel is faster than JEV.

Why don't they limit the number of men that can work on the car during a pit stop
